A Mom Blog Social Network
So I'm wondering, is one better than the other? I've mantained an ad free blog since I started back in August. I like the idea of the pages just being filled with my stuff. It's not a freeway in need of billboards. I feel we are bombarded with enough advertising in our day to day life to choke a horse. Why do we just keep putting it everywhere? I'm waiting for the day when toilet paper is printed with ads on every square!
Blogging is supposed to be something you do for you, I thought. Not just another way to make money. Why do we have make money off of it for it to be worthwhile? Is it not enough to know your getting your voice out there? Then when some people say that this or that costs them money out of their own pocket I get more confused. It's your blog, you control the whole thing so if you don't want it to cost you money, it shouldn't. Blogging is a hobby and hobbies usually are free or you pay something for them. You don't usually get paid for a hobby.
I'm not knocking anyone who does have a ad laden blog, just trying to understand why we need ads on something that is usually so personal and self related.
When my blog with 1,000 hits a month raked in a whopping $0.03 on the first day from Google Adsense... I took Adsense off of my site immediately. A mere $11 a year isn't worth the ugly ad clutter on my site. I'm with you - I don't like the look of an ad-laden blog... just a personal preference of mine.
I've had better luck doing sponsored posts via SocialSpark. I've only done 2 posts, but at $15 per post, it's a MUCH more effective way to make a few quick bucks. Plus, I write my own posts, so can still make sure it fits the style of my blog. This way, I can keep my blog clean. It isn't filled with clutter & ads on every page, but I still can make a few bucks on the side as well. For those interested in giving it a try, my referral link is: http://izea.in/rjd4
