I still need to do that for mine, but a friend suggested Go Daddy to me. That's where she got hers.

There are so many different places...

GoDaddy.com and Yahoo.com are my top picks.  I like the layout and ease of using their control panels best.

But yes, Googling it can be so overwhelming. 

Tip:  Purchase it for as long as they will let you.  It can be tempting to go for a 1 year only plan - but you will usually save money by going ahead and purchasing your domain for 5 years.  The renewal costs on a 1 year plan can be quite a bit more than if you purchase for 5 years.
