The gap between my first and second was almost 4 years.  It worked for us.  DD was potty trained, and more than willing to help with the baby at that age.  Now with our third, DS#1 is 6 and DD is 10.  It's harder.  There is some jealousy with the baby needing so much time and attention.  I often feel guilty because I'm not able to devote as much time to my older 2.  They are used to me taking them places on a whim, volunteering for their school all the time, etc...  This gap is much harder, though I wouldn't change it for anything.

Mine are 22 1/2 months apart. I think its great! I potty trained my first while we were at home with the newborn. I had both girls and there were no jealousy issues. Now they are 2 1/2 and 7 months and started playing together. I would like to do that spacing for my next baby.

i hav only 1 girl,she s   2 d half nw,,first i thought next would b aftr 5 years..but nw am thinkg abt 3 year gap.... dat vil b fine for both ,,dey vil share evry thing,,no jealous,,coz 1st child hav nt much thinkg power ven v care d 2nd 1.....

My children are 22 1/2 months apart. It worked great for our family. I did find potty training my daughter with a newborn was a little difficult. Potty training is just so time consuming. There were some jealousy issues in the begining especially when my son started moving around. My daughter out grew that in a couple of months. She is now 3 and my son 1 1/2 yrs old and they play amazingly together (some fighting in between as can be expected) but you can see the love in my daughter's eyes.

My boys are 3 1/2 years apart and we love it!!  We always wanted 3-4 years between our kids so we could spend quality time with our first child.  It worked great too when our second was born... our oldest could dress himself, was potty trained and could actually be a helper.  While I was taking care of the baby, he was self sufficient enough to play on his own and do his thing throughout the house.  

 

They are 5 & 2 now and there are times they are best friends and times where they both just want to be on there own, no different than any other siblings.  You don't need to have them close together for them to be best friends :-)
