Felicia,

 

You need to trust your gut over any doctor!  I don't care what people say (even if he seems social) if he has enough of the other key characteristics, than he is probably high functioning autistic.  My son is the same, now 7yo, but he fluctuates between often playing by himself & going up to anyone to visit.  I can remember taking him to the doctor & he would be visiting with every single person in the waiting room-not an exaggeration.   But he is no doubt autistic because he does a lot of stimming, has strong speech impairments like echolalia, & is developmentally delayed about 1-2 years.  So even though he is 7yo, he acts like a 5yo.  I hope this helps.

Hi everyone my son is 3 and has sensory processing disorder.  The pediatrician says he definately has something else psychological going on but wont give him a diagnosis without someone else 2 confirm. He was thinking high functioning autism but the psychologist who saw him said there is no way he is autistic he is to social! I am at a loss and extremely frustrated at this dead end!

Hi everyone,

I am a homeschooling Mom to 4 special kids - DS1 and DS3 have Aspergers and Autism, DS2 and DD both have sensory processing disorder. Hi everyone! I am the mom of 4 kids ages 11, 8, 6, and 4 the only girl is the 6 year old. My 11 year old has autism, executive prossesing disorder, and a motion disorder just to name a few. He was just recently dx with all of this within the past year so this is all pretty new to me.. I am also a full time grad student.

Hi everyone! I have a 5.5yr old autistic son who is my pride and joy. We are also homeschooling him because the school couldn't provide him with what he needed. He was diagnosed just before he turned 3, he also has global developmental delays, an eating disorder and a sleep disorder. My blog chronicles our joys and struggles our family goes though, our homeschooling journal and also some household chatter and reviews.
