Meet Amazing Teacher -Runner Mom Ginger Katz, CEO of The Courage to Speak Foundation

CABE’s executive director, Robert Rader recently gave me the opportunity to attend the annual CABE/CAPPS Convention as a Workingmother.com representative. This past summer I had discussed my column with Bob at the gym which we frequent along with many other teachers, principals, and board of education members in Glastonbury, Connecticut.  With all of these interesting professionals to speak with, I am seldom at a loss for ideas for my articles. Aside from their children’s personal safety and…See More

Local Healer Wants to Expand Reiki Practice in Glastonbury, CT

I have always enjoyed listening to inspirational books during my commute to work. I never know when I am going to absorb and digest a bit of wisdom from this “self-help” genre. Last month I listened to Lisa Oz’s book about relationships, called Us. In her inspirational biography, Lisa described how as a certified Reiki Master,…See More

2012 CABE Conference

Serving as a member of a board of education for a public school is not an elementary volunteer post. Most parents would prefer to volunteer serving food and beverages at sporting events, instead of spending time making decisions which other parents and taxpayers may or may not agree upon. Most sports fans happily thank the volunteers as they devour their delicious slices of fresh baked pie, but may not thank the board of education members whose votes will impact taxes in order to improve the…See More

Teens, Toddlers and National Reading Standards

Before embarking on a mini-reading-research project, I brought my narrative-loving two year old to high school for two twenty minute visits.  I ultimately want create something unique, but of value to other educators and parents. Working as a high school reading specialist presents me with the challenge of teaching students who are reading at the primary level, alongside others who may be reading on their current grade level, but who have simply failed to excel on reading or writing sections of…See More

Glastonbury Chiropractic Has This Mom's Back

Skeletons abound this time of year, but what about our own bones?  How can we keep our bones healthy aside from consuming Calcium rich foods and beverages? This summer I learned a valuable lesson about bones from Dr. Jamie Lemeck of Glastonbury Chiropractic. I have been a patient at this office for the past seven years, where they take excellent care of my spine, which sometimes endures up to seventy miles of pounding per week, depending on what event I am training for. This past summer I…See More

CT Reading Association's 61st Annual Reading Conference

“Hi Coach! What’s the work-out for today?” is usually uttered with more force and volume than “What are we going to learn today?”  It’s a hopeful sign if kids do bother to ask what they are going to learn today, but you are bound to get a much better reaction from your athletes who choose to learn and practice their skills, than students who are compelled by our state laws to attend classes during certain hours of the day. In the year 2000, when I first began my own career as an educator,…See More
