Doing the Simple Things - My New Year's Resolution

I gave up on making New Year's resolutions for a few years as I never seemed to keep them, but this year in the spirit of fresh starts I decided to give it another go.You can read more about all my resolutions here http://bit.ly/Vwvkl2 but the one I hope will make most difference to my everyday life is my bid to do the simple things consistently and well.I never seem to have enough time to get anything done and while at one point I would have sat and…See More

Time to Remind Ourselves Why We Love Our Children

Living in New Zealand, I am far away from the events in Connecticut, but as a mother I was still deeply affected by what happened.I have shielded my son from what happened, turning the radio off in the car every time the news came on so he didn't hear words like children and killed in the same sentence, and reading the news on the internet when I knew he wouldn't see over my shoulder. It isn't that I don't care about what happened, but at four-years-old, I don't think he needs to know about…See More

Aaaaaargh - Bedtime Sucks

Once upon a time, there was a cute little boy affectionately known as Monkey. Monkey was a great sleeper and would go pretty much straight to sleep when he went to bed. For the past few weeks sadly, my lovely little sleeper has been replaced with a nightmare child who refuses to stay in bed and wakes me up during the night. Bedtime used to be my favorite time of day. This blog post explains why. http://bit.ly/Whevzd Bedtime still is nice, but the bits that…See More

The Joy of Grandparents

My Mum, Monkey's Granny lives overseas so we don't see her very often. At the moment she is visiting us for five weeks so Monkey is very excited. Me? I'm just enjoying the fact that I am not having to be a constant playmate at the moment! It is one of the downsides I guess of having an only child, that there are no siblings to get them to play with so as a parent you probably do more playing than others. This can be hard if you have other things to do like housework. Grandparents on the other…See More

Am I mad for only wanting one child?

I have a delightful pre-schooler and love him to bits, but I have no real desire to have any more children. Most of my friends either have more than one or are planning to have more children once their first child is past the initial baby stage, but me - no really.Am I mad to only want one child? People keep asking me if I am having another one and always look at me a bit funny when I say no. I can't be the only person who doesn't want a big family surely?I am an only child and I think I am…See More
