Posted on September 2, 2014 at 9:54pm 0 Comments

As you probably already guessed (based on the title of this post) – we’re pregnant!

Thrilled, ecstatic, amazed, thankful, blessed…words can’t even describe.

I was having a conversation the other day with my friend Tiffani about how we used to think – pre-kids – that we were soooo busy. And then we had children. And we can’t remember what we actually spent our time doing back in the “busy” days.

This isn’t a dig at people who don’t have kids. It’s just the truth about reality – it’s impossible to understand how constantly busy you can actually be until you have kids. You parents know what I’m talking about. Having kids magnifies everything…

Life After Child Loss: Heidi’s Story

Posted on September 1, 2014 at 10:48am 0 Comments

My daughter Avery would have turned six this past July. In just a few days she’d be starting first grade. I would no doubt be frantically running around, completely occupied with last minute school shopping for frilly dresses and Queen Elsa lunchboxes and pretty pink bows to clip in her long brown hair.

But Avery was stillborn three weeks before her due date. My daughter’s ashes sit in an urn in my bedroom, a little silver container from Hobby Lobby that gets a kiss every morning and…

Blogging Better: Editorial Calendar Secrets

Posted on August 28, 2014 at 8:44am 0 Comments

So you’ve heard about this thing called an “editorial calendar.” But if you don’t work in marketing, you might not know what the heck I’m talking about. And no matter what field you work in, figuring out how to create an editorial calendar that you’ll actually use can be a challenge. So what gives?

Why they work

Editorial calendars are one of my favorite ways to keep my work organized, especially as it pertains to my blog. It’s a place where I can keep…

Fit Mama: Today I Took the Pluge – I Bought a Fancy Heart Rate Monitor

This past week has been an emotional roller coaster, for a lot of reasons. When my life is emotional, I like to do a lot of cardio. I don’t know why – it just works out that way. When I feel like doing more of a particular exercise – circuits vs. lifting vs. cardio – I go with it. I figure that if my body feels like it’s not getting enough of a particular…See More

WAHM: Everything You Need to Know About Becoming A Work-From-Home-Parent

Some of you already know this – but I am a full time work from home mom. I do quite a bit of freelance writing and marketing consulting – and my baby boy gets to actually be home with me two days a week. It’s like the best of both worlds – and I love it.For many reasons, a daily office environment just isn’t for me. I’m really efficient – and when you’re graded on billable hours, like many agencies are, this actually hurts my performance reports. I don’t do office politics – I believe that…See More
