The Journey to Our First Pregnancy

Posted on July 1, 2015 at 9:59am 0 Comments

I’ve never posted much about our TTC journey with Ricky. And then Astroglide TTC Trying to Conceive™ reached out to me, asking if I would share some of our experience with my readers. Realizing how exciting, and yet difficult, that period can be, I thought it was high time I shared a little of our crazy little journey with you guys. And hopefully, if you’ve been struggling to get pregnant, or have experienced some kind of loss, it helps you find some promise within your own TTC…

Forcing Myself To Get Back To Healthy

Posted on June 30, 2015 at 3:48pm 0 Comments

Last night I did something really stupid. I tried on a pair of shorts in the Target dressing room.

Now, I know that I haven’t lost all of the baby weight. But I know that I’ve lost some of it. So I thought, what the hell. I’ll try on a pair of jean shorts in a size up from my normal size, because I was at Target with just the baby and all.

I forgot how awful the mirrors are in the Target dressing room are. I don’t know if it’s the lighting, or the angle, or a little of…

Judgment Call: A Look at the Teenage Brain

Posted on June 4, 2015 at 9:38am 0 Comments

Do you remember the popular teen movies from the 1980s?

These flicks introduced the world to a wide range of teenage problems. Moviegoers and characters sought acceptance and adventure as they suffered through tales of teenage angst. Too often, the teen years are clouded with mystique and stereotypes stemming from stigmatized Hollywood movies.

Right now it might be hard to imagine missing your toddler’s sweet sixteen or picturing them sitting out a Saturday…

Why Mom Friends Are So Important

Posted on May 15, 2015 at 4:36pm 0 Comments

You guys, I have to tell you something. And it’s something that you already know.

Being a mom is one of the greatest joys you’ll ever have. And it’s also one of the hardest.

Sometimes, I feel like the world is pushing on me to put forth this image of motherhood perfection. Because that’s what you see across a lot of social media, blogs, media and the like. That push makes it so easy to feel like you’re alone in your parenting fears, fails, and hard moments. But you know what…

Baby Life: The Things You Obsess About When You’re a Mom

I always find it hard to start calling a baby by their name. Is that weird? It’s like, for so long they were just “the baby.” And then they become this real person with a real name. And it takes a while to get used to the change. When Ricky was born, it felt so strange to call him Ricky. Probably because that’s what I called my husband. I tried calling him RJ for a while, and Rick hated that. So as I transitioned into calling him “Ricky,” I started to call the hubs “Rick.”Now it’s totally…See More

Win a Medela Freestyle Double Breast Pump!

Yesterday I told you guys about my own newborn necessities, which have become totally imperative to life with two kids. But there was one thing I left off of my list, partly because I was saving it for it’s very own special post. For breastfeeding mamas, a fantastic breast pump is an absolute necessity. And where breast pumps are concerned, Medela is the best.I know that they’re famous for being one of…See More

Newborn Life: 5 Essentials to Make Life Easier

Recovering from this pregnancy has been oddly easier than my last two. Not that I’m that far out from the gate – it’s really only been just over two weeks. Last night, I was trying to figure out exactly what’s made this particular postpartum period so much…less intense. Outside of obvious reasons. And you know what? A lot of it comes down to a good mentality. When you’re positive, things kind of fall into place. I’m also working on a few things right now (I know, two weeks post-baby and I’m…See More

This Should Be Harder, Right?

This Should Be Harder, Right?Do you ever have those days where you just don’t know what you actually did? That’s kind of how I felt yesterday. I honestly don’t know where the hours went.Suddenly, it was 8:30. My toddler was still up, because he wanted to cuddle with mama and baby Christopher while we watched a movie. And seriously, who can say no to that level of cuteness?Once I got him to bed, I knew that I really needed to get some work done. But then, my little one was cuddling his little…See More

If You’re Suffering Through Toddler Sleep Regressions, I’m With You

A few weeks ago, Ricky went through a week or two of sleep regression. Every night, bedtime became a battle. Compared to our usual routine, this was tough. Every night, he cried and screamed until we would let him lay down in our bed. Which then became the goof around in mama and daddy’s bed hour. And then he’d go to bed, but wake up over and over and over again.Patiently, we waited for his sleep to return to normal. And it did. But I have to say, I don’t know how parents with non-sleepers do…See More

Contractions Are So Mystifying.

At 11 last night, I awoke to a giant “thump” in the room next to ours. It was actually nothing out of the ordinary – just my two year old rolling around in his bed and hitting the wall. But as soon as I woke up, I realized I was having a contraction. A decent one! While laying down!To be clear, I’ve been having contractions for a week and a half at this point. But they typically aren’t consistent when I’m laying down. So I was kind of surprised, but figured it was a one-off occurrance. I went…See More

Pregnancy After Stillbirth: The Moment When You Realize You’ve Moved Forward

This weekend was amazing. The sun was out, the weather was warm. It was 70 degrees in March – that’s a regular old heatwave for Minnesota! There’s this distinct smell that comes along with springtime in the frigid tundra. It kind of reminds me of Seattle after a big rainstorm – like a whiff of the coast is coming in with the wind. It’s glorious. It makes me want to pull out all of our patio furniture and start planting flowers.Of course, it’s still only March, so we can’t go crazy.Last year, we…See More

That Heart Stopping Moment at an Ultrasound Appointment

I just stood in my kitchen, trying to figure out what I was going to tackle next, while eating spoonful after spoonful of frosting. That’s totally normal when you’re pregnant, isn’t it?This morning we had one of our weekly ultrasound dates (super romantic, right?) and then a non-stress test for the little guy. Lots of doctor appointments are par for the course when you’re pregnant after losing a baby.We were sitting in the ultrasound room and everything was measuring well – baby boy’s heart rate…See More

Pregnancy After Stillbirth: How to Respond to Strangers Asking Questions

Last week, I was in a meeting with a client who asked about my blog. Specifically, what I write about. This has become a weird question for me since our loss, because I don’t know how to say that I write about baby loss without really going into detail. And that gets awkward, because it’s a highly emotional topic for a professional setting. So instead of going into detail, I just include it in a list of topics that wind up on my little corner of the internet, hoping that they don’t want to know…See More

Sometimes, You Have To Go With The Flow

Sometimes, it just feels like your world collides with something and everything just kind of…stops.Last week, Lucy decided she was afraid of my laptop cord. So she pulled the whole charging port out of it. I thought, meh, no big deal. I figured we’d have to replace the laptop at the end of the year, so we’re just doing that a little early. I don’t use it a ton, anyway. So I ordered a replacement, took the longer free shipping option, moved on.And then I realized just how much I actually DO use…See More
