My Mixed Blessing Pregnancy – a Guest Post by Sarah Novak

Posted on November 26, 2014 at 1:50pm 0 Comments

I was one of those women who got pregnant on the first try.

I know it was a gift that we had such an easy time conceiving, but in my head I’d envisioned that it would take about 6 months (you know, the average statistic of how long it takes to get pregnant).  So while I was ready to be “trying”, in actuality I wasn’t mentally ready to be pregnant yet.  I was counting on 6 more months at full energy to do all the things I loved and spend some quality time with my husband...Continue…

Pregnancy After Stillbirth: The Nursery is Freaking Me Out

Posted on November 25, 2014 at 4:30pm 0 Comments

I haven’t written about this pregnancy in a while, it feels like. And I want you guys to know…it’s not intentional.

Things got really real with this pregnancy a few weeks ago when we changed out Ricky’s room from the nursery furniture to his big boy bed. Putting that big bed in his room has been awesome for him. But seeing all of the nursery furniture in what used to be our guest bedroom is really shocking, I guess, for lack of a better way to put it.

When we first decided to…

5 Sweet Treats for Kids With a Healthy Twist

Posted on November 24, 2014 at 11:27am 0 Comments

Have your kids come down off their Halloween . . .or Christmas, Valentines Day or Easter . . sugar high yet? It seems we are always either approaching or recovering from a holiday celebration that involves mini chocolate bars, candy hearts, candy canes or jelly beans! No wonder our kids are always searching for something sweet to eat.

In an effort to keep our pre bedtime snacks and our sweet treats both healthy and tasty enough for the kids to enjoy, I have come up with a list of…

12 Ways I’m Making Christmas Totally Magical for My Two Year Old

As Ricky gets older and really understands what “Christmas” means, I’ve found myself getting really into the Christmas spirit. Decorating, gift planning and most of all: SANTA PLANNING.This is really the first year that Ricky gets who Santa is. Although he did yell at me when I told him we were decorating for Jesus’s birthday to tell me that all the decorations were his. It’s the whole “mine” syndrome. He’s definitely my kid.Anyway – planning how to make Santa real and magical has been a super…See More

Preparing for Snowmageddon: All the Winter Necessities When You Live in the Frigid Tundra

So my child didn’t sleep last night. Ear infections + snow seem to coincide with each other all too frequently. So at 4 AM, while I was still trying to convince my two year old to take yet another dose of Motrin to quell his fever and actually go back to sleep, I was intermittently chatting with the hubs while he was out on site and watching (more) snow fall from the sky.And thinking about all of the snow gear we had stocked up on for this winter.Winter = lots of gear in these parts. Let me…See More

There’s No Business Like Snow Business

Snow.OMG. Snow.Winter is a big part of our life here in the frigid tundra. Even more so in my family, because our livelihood is based on it.We own a snow business. From October through May, it dictates our life. No, we don’t typically get snow in October, but that’s prep season. So we’re supposed to get six to twelve inches today. Now that’s a good amount of snow for anytime in the season – but for early November – and our first snowfall of the year – it’s pretty huge.We had planned to do a lot…See More
