Five things we need to do - now that it's officially spring in the frigid tundra

Posted on April 21, 2014 at 9:32pm 0 Comments

I feel like the fact that we’ve reached SPRING! after this incredibly long winter was this light at the end of the tunnel. A light that felt like it kept getting pushed further and further away with every little late season snowfall (including the one we just had last week). But according to the weatherman, there’s actually a potential forthunderstorms this week. Which means…fingers crossed…that we’re actually almost to that tangible moment where we’re actually summer bound. I feel…

Video: Tips for moms pregnant with number two

Posted on April 19, 2014 at 10:21am 0 Comments

Back when I was pregnant with Ricky, I had no worries or qualms about taking care of him. Logistics didn’t scare me, baby care didn’t rock my world, never sleeping really wasn’t a big issue. Now that I’m pregnant with baby number two, I’m realizing that while caring for a baby hasn’t changed, we’re going to have to adjust ourselves a bit…that is to say, I’m very lucky that strategic planning is one of my strengths. Because strategic logistics are a must when you have multiple…

Things I Love: Five Beauty Tips Every Mama Needs to Know for Spring

Posted on April 9, 2014 at 10:04pm 0 Comments

Today the weather was in the 70′s for the first time in six months – Helloooooooo springtime in Minnesota! To celebrate this fab weather, we fired up the grill and had fresh brats for dinner. Ricky and I took Lucy for a long walk. We actually ENJOYED the weather. It was amazing. Now, one other thing that I always start thinking about when the weather starts changing is my skincare and makeup – because those things change with the seasons as well. There are three things that I immediately do…

We’re Having A…Girl!

Posted on April 7, 2014 at 9:28pm 0 Comments

That’s right, we found out on Friday that the newest addition to our little family will be a bouncing bundle of PINK! You can imagine my excitement. I LOVE having a little boy – Ricky is the best. But having one of each…oh, my heart goes pitter patter. Especially to think of all the fun little outfits that will soon be invading our home. Because we all know that shopping for boys is good and great, but there is just MORE out there for little girls. And yes, I will…

Six years later and I still react to memories of the attack.

It’s been over six years since I was attacked by a stranger outside of my old apartment. And I thought I was completely over it. Apparently, I’m not. This morning my little man got up at five. Just what every mama wants…a crabby, super early riser on Saturday morning. But at our house, we make the best of these things. We got up, had breakfast and hung out with the puppies. We…See More

Four Tips for Encouraging Toddlers to Eat Well

One of the hardest things with having a toddler – well, with having a child of any age, probably – is teaching them to be healthy eaters. It’s a big topic in our house right now, mostly because becoming a fully-fledged toddler means my baby boy is making more of his food decisions for himself. So, how do I have a child who eats lots of fruits and veggies, lots of “different” foods (like hummus and bbq ribs) and will always try whatever’s on mama’s plate? Well, let me give you my tricks of the…See More

The four toys my baby couldn’t live without

Some days, I thank my lucky stars that my baby has certain toys that he’s just so infatuated with. Because when we come home from a busy day and need something to keep a meltdown at bay between dinner and bedtime, a toy distraction is key. If we didn’t have these amazingly engaging toys, we would be up such a crick without a paddle. It would mean my entire main level got torn apart as soon as the crabby toddler syndrome hit every night. Chairs pushed from the dining room to the carpet in the…See More

19 Weeks Pregnant: It’s going so fast!

I can’t believe we’re almost to the halfway point already. And I know that I keep saying it – but this pregnancy is going SO DANG FAST. I was thinking about that a little bit today, and it actually got me a little emotional (which I will one hundred percent blame on my pregnancy hormones….). When I was pregnant with Ricky, it felt like we were just counting down the days until we hit another week in the pregnancy. This time around, I don’t even know where the weeks went. But I guess that’s the…See More

The 5 things we're gonna do in April. Now that it's spring.

It’s official (or at least, I hope it’s official): Spring is here! The snow is melting, the temp is warming and my winter hibernation is ending. It’s actually supposed to hit 60 degrees here today in the frigid tundra. Minnesotans are jumping for joy – and you think I’m kidding. When I saw the weather this morning, I did a little happy jump. Because it has been THAT LONG since we have seen real temperatures. Or, should I say, temperatures above freezing. AHHH! Excitement abounds in my…See More

Well, I'm officially 30.

This weekend, I hit the big three-oh. Leading up to it (aka from the hubs’ 30th birthday last summer) I didn’t really think twice about turning such a big number. Being out of my twenties. Being what always seemed to be the “true” grown up age. And then last Thursday, it hit me: I was about to turn thirty. I was about to be out of my twenties. I was about to be a true grown up. And suddenly there were all of these things that I had never thought about before that suddenly seem…so real. They’re…See More

And…my belly popped out.

When you’re pregnant, you check yourself out in the mirror. A lot. It’s not because you’re so much more vain than you were pre-pregnancy. It’s not because you want to look at your outfit twelve times a day. It’s because you’re waiting for that magical moment when your belly pops. That moment when you go from looking like you might’ve gained a few pounds to actually looking pregnant. And for this mama, it happened this week.Once you really look pregnant, you start to really feel pregnant. I’m…See More

18 Weeks Pregnant: Feeling those baby kicks

When you’re pregnant for the first time, you start questioning everything for baby kicks and flutters and flips. And then around week 20, you actually DO start to feel them and it’s like your whole world changes. The pregnancy – and the fact that you’re halfway to holding your baby in your arms – becomes real. You start to recognize all of the real movements and jump with delight every single time you feel something. It’s amazing. The second time around, it’s no less amazing. It’s funny though –…See More

Two days post ear tubes: Lots of words and a happy baby

Remember the other day, I told you my baby got ear tubes? And remember how I said that I was really hoping for a huge improvement for him? Well, let me tell you something: two days post-surgery, ear tubes are a Godsend. After we got home, we cuddled on the couch, watched some Disney Jr. and then he took a nice, long nap. By the time he was up, he was ready to start playing. By the end of the…See More

My baby officially has ear tubes

Leading up to this morning, all week I’ve felt like I should be anxious. Nervous. On the edge of my seat. Because this morning, my baby got his ear tubes. And I have to admit, I was pretty calm about the whole thing. Surprisingly calm. There were a lot of things that played into this:He’s had six ear infections since November. Which basically equals out to an ear infection every three weeks.Ear infections in babies are brutal, as any parent who has experienced this will tell you. Your baby will…See More

17 Weeks Pregnant: Really Starting to Miss My Coffee

Two things have been very consistent in my pregnancies: one, when I’m first pregnant caffeine makes me want to gag. I literally can’t drink coffee without ending up curled up in the fetal position on the floor of my bedroom trying to talk myself out of puking. I think this is my body’s natural reaction to something that needs to be limited during pregnancy. Slash because everything that’s not applesauce, toast or a strawberry banana smoothie is not going to be ingested by my system.By about…See More
