Modern Day Tupperware Parties

Tupperware parties have changed a lot since the 50’s when they first started popping up in living rooms across America. I vaguely remember my mother hosting a party or two back in the day but up until recently had never attended one.Last month I attend a Pampered Chef party. For those of you not familiar with the company, they sell all sorts of handy dandy kitchen gadgets in a Tupperware party format. Same idea, just different products. This particular party was for a good cause so I went to…See More

Cooking At the Mall

When my friend and I signed up for a cooking class at the mall, we weren’t expecting much; it was more of an excuse to catch up and have some laughs. Little did we know our teacher/chef would turn out to be a reality TV star! What are the chances? The cooking class turned out to be less instruction and more of a live show in which we were part of the cast, or at least that’s what it felt like. Yes, I did learn how to cook a few things but the highlight for me was hearing the chef recount his…See More

There's Corn in My Ketchup!

When I told the boys one of the ingredients in their beloved ketchup was corn they looked at me like I had three heads. Then I hit them with another whammy; ketchup is also made from tomatoes. Wow, were they shocked!Of course the corn in ketchup is not literally kernels of corn. It’s in the form of high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) which is a derivative of highly processed corn starch. The reason food companies use HFCS is simple economics. It’s cheaper than sugar and it acts as a preservative…See More

Imitation Equals Flattery

I hate it when Mario Batali knocks off my recipes! Awhile ago I made a delicious chicken dish and last month in Food & Wine Magazine there’s Mario totally taking credit for it. I knew I should have posted it sooner…Our recipes are slightly different since Mario uses asparagus and we opted for spinach. I also made mine in bite-size…See More

O Is For Oatmeal

Has this every happened to you? You’re shopping in Costco or BJ’s and you see something that you don’t need but the price is so good you can’t resist? So you flex your muscles, lift the 20lb bag, and dump it in your double wide shopping cart. For a split second you think “How will I ever use this all up?” but the thought is fleeting as you spy another amazing bargain! On my last trip to Costco I had oatmeal on my mind since I had just used the last bit. Arriving at the cereal aisle I spotted an…See More
