We couldn't go to co-op this week because we had eye appointments during that time.  Because the eye doctor is about 5 minutes from our house, we were able to get in almost a full day of school, and what a difference it made not trying to cram 5 days worth of material into 4 days!  We had an hour or more of free time at the end of each school day before we had to head off to activities, and our "long days" (the one or two days each week we don't have activities and do school longer) were…

The kids created crayon-resist watercolor paintings and poems about Autumn.  We read a book about Autumn prior to creating the pictures, and several poems about Autumn before the writing portion of Artist's/Writer's Workshop.  While we read poems by other authors, we highlighted words and phrases that spoke to us, then we brainstormed words and phrases of our own that matched our pictures.  We mixed things up a bit this time.
