Christmas Cooking

My family has this HUGE Christmas Eve tradition. We get together at my moms house for a Christmas glutton feast! That's the only time I get my mom's famous pot roast (a favorite). The schedule's changed a bit over the years but it consists of church, family photos and tons and tons of food. I wanted to share something with you today that our family has been dealing with for the past year and a half. Ever since I started Izzy on solids we've had a love/hate relationship with the potty. Right before bed I decided to try out another product from my InfluensterHoliday Vox Box. This one is the Broadway Nails imPRESS Press-On Manicure. I got your comments today; thank you!! :) Basically Jax is a really dorky kid by nature--he has always has the attention span and desire to read for lengthy periods of time, even when he was less than a year old. By the time he was 1 he would sit and read for an hour no problem. We don't have a lot of toys with big bells and whistles--mostly quiet, imaginative toys that encourage independent thinking. I love Melissa and Doug toys the best. I really kept him from watching too much tv when he was little and I think that made a big difference. He watches two hours max of tv a day now that he's two, but I make sure he's watching quality stuff. And I sit and watch it with him and talk to him about it so it's not just a babysitter. The show "word World" on PBS is awesome, but probably not until 2 years old. That's where he's learned most of his letter sounds.
I'd say most of his desire to read is just who he is, but we've made some choices to help him along. As long as you're attentive and give your child LOTS of opportunities to read LOTS of different things (Jax has over 130 books of his own and we go to the library once a week) then you'll foster a love of learning. Obviously you care about literacy so I'm sure you're doing great! :)
