(Week 1) How many times have you participated in a blog hop and had someone come over to your heartfelt blog post and simply say "Hi, I'm following you from such and such blog, please follow back" ?How rude huh? You spent a lot of time writing that post and that is the comment you get?  Well if you think that is this kind of hop, please come back on Wednesday for my…See More

Pray, Don't Prey

The #Reverb11 prompt for May asks: If you participated in Reverb 10 during December of last year, are any of the things you wanted to manifest in 2011 revealing themselves? When I wrote my #Reverb10 posts, such as "Let Go Already!", they were more reflective - looking backwards instead of ahead. For that reason, I am putting a bit of a different spin on this…See More

Barf or Pass Out? (What a Runner Looks Like Right Before Asking That Question)

I knew this weekend was going to be full. It started Friday night with Relay for Life (I am our team's captain). This is my the luminary in honor of my mom, a cancer survivor:On the Saturday morning when Relay was still technically underway, I needed to get my son to the Friends of Wakulla Springs 1 Mile Run, which  was a "Grand Prix" run for him. After he spent the night with me on the…See More

Nothing - A Message to Teens Who Cyberbully

I watched it all unfold on Facebook. A comment by a teenager, directed at another teenager, that generated 22 comments and 8 "likes." Once I deduced the target wasn't my child (that's happened before), I realized the target was another child I know. A status of "Delete me off of facebook all you want honey, but try doing that in real life and you'll find out that I'll always keep…See More

Red or White?

I had not planned to write a Mother's Day post. But when I called to order a corsage for my mom to wear to church on Mother's Day, the simple significance of Barbara Carter's question sealed the deal. The question: Red or White?I realized when I was commenting on Julianna Baggott's "Happy Birthday" blog post to her mother, that this seed of a post had…See More

Alone, Red, in a Field of Yellow (A #Reverb11 Prompt)

When I first read this month's "Reverb" prompt (at http://www.reverb10.com/), I knew immediately what I wanted to discuss in my response to "What's Blossoming?" but I struggled most of the month with how to portray my idea. That struggle was born out of the fact that I am not sure that the quality I want to see in my children is blossoming yet. It was turning into more of a "gee, I sure hope this will blossom eventually" blog. The good thing about…See More

It's About Your Car ...

Here it is Sunday night and I have kept .0000083 of a person hanging - if anyone was waiting for the "big ending" of my "It's about your car" moment in Jacksonville last Saturday.Tenley and I had gone to Jacksonville to purchase pointe shoes (which we didn't end up purchasing after trying on every pink, satiny, pointy thing there but did end up ordering later in the week .... I digress). Failing on the pointe shoe quest, we headed to the mall (of course!).It's important to know that I was…See More

When a Taco is Better than a Burrito but Worse than a Tortilla

The last weekend in March, Wayne Kevin and I had an opportunity to go zip lining for the first time. We had a great experience at North Georgia Canopy Tours, and I am so glad we had a chance to experience this adventure on a piece of land that used to be a poultry farm. Before zipping, you have to take "ground school" in order to learn several safety components of the zip lining experience, like braking and how to "self-rescue" if you brake…See More

UNSTOPPABILITY (A MY RUN ticket giveaway)

Who is this man and why did I volunteer to be on his team site unseen?"This man" is Terry Hitchcock. In 1996, he ran 75 marathons in 75 days. He did this to raise awareness of the challenges faced by single parents and to honor his wife's memory. (His wife, Sue, had just passed away from breast cancer and he had three young children to raise.)As Terry's run was made into the…See More

Marching Blindly Through Molasses

When I was driving to Carrabelle last weekend to participate in the Camp Gordon Johnston Museum Reunion, I was listening to "The Professor and the Madman," a book written by Simon Winchester about the development of the Oxford English Dictionary. At one point the book was discussing the laughingly erratic progress of the project and Winchester used the term "Marching Blindly Through Molasses." The term perfectly defines how I feel as I stand on the brink of the book I dream of writing.I want to…See More
