I hate homework

I got a prerecorded message yesterday from the school district informing me that there was now some sort of fantastic (taxpayer funded, no doubt) new website where I can go to create even more homework for Callie. I simply had to log in and there I would find all sorts of math and other academic delights to be explored. Hooray. The call ended with a guilt-invoking sing-songy reminder, “Remember, parental  involvement is the key to your child’s academic success.” Guess what school board? I don’t…See More

Tickets to Cirque du Soleil's Kooza...best surprise ever!

I am a huge fan of Cirque du Soleil. I've seen several of the different versions and they are always jaw-droppingly intense and beautiful. So I was quietly bummed that we weren't going to get  to see Kooza while it was in St. Petersburg because we are saving for spending all our money on Christmas presents. I even had a Kooza postcard taunting me on the fridge that…See More

Indoor Rock Climbing

I am a lover of all things Groupon and Living Social, so when I saw a Living Social deal for an introductory indoor rock climbing class for two for just $25, I convinced Jeb that we simply had to try it. I didn't have to twist his arm too much.We went on Sunday and it was good, clean, fun. I was the first one to climb up the wall and did have a moment just before I reached the top when my …See More

Yoga makes me all better

Originally posted on Steph's BestI tried to smile but only achieved a grimace. This is a pigeon pose. Almost. Ziplining the Canyons in Ocala, FL–awesome!

It was perfectly clear and mild in early November, about 80°. It seemed like a good day to launch myself out of a perfectly good tree, fly over some deep ravines and lakes, and finish it off by rappelling off a 30(ish)-foot high platform. So I did that. And it was full-on, giddy, stomach-butterflying, adrenaline-pumping, permagrin-producing FUN.Ziplining and smiling …See More

Kick the bucket, buy the farm–why do we say these things?

You know those phrases you’ve heard all of your life like ”kicked the bucket”, and “bought the farm”? Have you ever wondered how they came to stand for whatever word they are replacing? I have. I think about these things sometimes . . . so you don't have to!In honor of Halloween I thought I’d go morbid and try to find the origination of 5 euphemisms for dying or death. C’mon! It’s all in good fun."Kick the…See More
