Google Changed the Rules!

Have you seen your search engine rank drop over the last month? In March, Google launched a new search algorithm that is meant to reward sites with high-quality original content.

That’s great news for small businesses and independent bloggers!

When your website features fresh, consistently updated and original content, it will rank better than your competitors who just reprint information they find elsewhere (you know who you are....)

True, the pay on those freelance site is embarrassing, but it also is based on skill. If you're a great writer and someone wants great copy, they'll pay more. But you do need to have lots of good samples in your portfolio.

I was about to suggest starting a new blog solely for your copywriting, but I see you've done that already. :) Get lots more posts on there, as well as some sample writing. Then get out there on Twitter and Facebook promoting your writing. Putting together articles/posts about writing itself (all sorts of tips for people looking for copywriters, the importance of various things like a headline, caption, etc.) are all great and hopefully will start building some buzz.

We're always looking for new writers ourselves, so feel free to email me at andrew@joeshopping.com with some of your writing samples, as well as your going rates, and I'll be happy to take a look.

Hey Tricia,

There are a number of freelancer type sites out there that hire writers (www.odesk.com www.elance.com), or you can join a number Guest Blog groups that are looking for places to post their guest blogs, as well as have other bloggers write guest posts. I know there's a guest blog group on bloggymoms, but you can also check out a site like www.myblogguest.com.

Hope that helps!
