Here’s my baby momma update (incase anyone was wondering). We did get our step-daughter last weekend as scheduled. Apparently she threw a fit before she went to school Friday wanting to come over, so her mom let her. This situation is so beyond ridiculous.

The Proposal
If you have been following my blog for any amount of time, you know that I was once widowed and if you have read Two Funerals, A Christening and a Wedding, you know how I met my husband Colby. It was all movie fashion in the Caracas
airport and the movie feel of our relationship didn’t end with the weekend in
Venezuela, although day-to-day life in a relationship with a three year old is
not necessarily the stuff movies are made of.…

Blind Sided
I watched the movie The Blind Side last night for the first time…it won’t be the last. I had tried to see it at the theater, but was always too busy…or I just didn’t
make the time. Last night, my
husband was out of town so the girls and I decided to have a “movie
night.” Movie night entailed a
gourmet dinner of popcorn, Milk Duds, Whoppers, (yep, that was dinner) closed
blinds, all the lights off, and…

Be there.
Say yes as often as possible.
Let them bang on pots and pans.
If they're crabby, put them in water.
If they're unlovable, love yourself.
Realize how important it is to be a child.
Go to a movie theater in your pajamas.…

"The days are long but the years are short." My favorite parenting quote.
My favorite quotes on education:
" Never be afraid to try something new. Remember that amateurs built the Ark. Professionals built the Titanic."
"In teaching you cannot see the fruit of a day's work. It is invisible and remains so, maybe for twenty years." Jacques Barzun
(or in parenting!)
“The object of teaching a child is to enable them to get along without a teacher.” Elbert…

I have battled lice twice thus far. Between my school's PTO website, the summer camp nurse and the web, I found a plethora of information both helpful and confusing. This is what I found to be successful in eradicating lice. I hope this helps you in your battle against head lice.…

This is NOT my year, the only thing missing from my “NOT” year is a high school reunion – that would just take the cake.
My “not’s” for this year (that I’m already freaking out about, but haven’t actually happened yet = the story of my life):
1. my husband is turning 30
2. my son is turning 3
3. my daughter is turning 10
Why is this my not year you ask? Let me explain.

My First Attempt at Indian Cooking
Recently I went back to my hometown for a few days to visit friends and revisit my childhood. One night for dinner my friend suggested that we eat at her favorite
Indian restaurant. I had to admit
I had never eaten Indian food before, but I was up for anything. My 11 year old wasn’t very thrilled,
but she recently discovered she liked guacamole, so Indian couldn’t be that
different. Was she ever in for a
surprise!…

It sometimes seems as though the cosmos themselves just know it’s Monday. Holidays are over, the cold, gloomy weather descends, & the phone guy will be here sometime between 9 a.m. & my death. You know the old adage, “They just don’t build ’em like they used to”?? Apparently that applies to modems as well. After 6 years, I recently upgraded mine, only to have internet connection issues ever since….I finally gave in to…

We’re in the middle of March Madness in our house – in every sense of the word.
My husband is obsessed with all things ESPN – especially football and March Madness. My employer holds a bracket contest every year – we can enter in 2 brackets at $10 each, first place gets 75%, second place gets the other 25%. Guess who one last year?

My First Mother-Daughter Road Trip
Over my daughter’s spring break I decided to take her on a road trip, not to the beach, nor skiing in the mountains, but back to my hometown. I grew up in a small
farming community in east-central Illinois.yes""> Look Tolono up on a map, you might find it just south of
Champaign. It is a 7-hour drive,
so Elle and I packed up Sarge and headed east.yes""> We had ample tunes and conversation to keep us awake and
alert for the…
