I've Got Rhythm
I now know why Gloria Estefan keeps telling me “the rhythm is going to get me”. Today, I learned the difference between rhythm and beat. Yes, I realize this is something most 4-year-olds know. I realize it's something Big Bird probably pondered and figured out on Sesame Street. Somehow, it’s something I just didn’t think about. Or maybe I just never thought enough about it to decipher the difference.
Today, I hear rhythm in everything. The perfect case of…

Mommies get paid in Love
Today I made a small mistake that resulted in my daughter calling me "bad mommy". This is one of the worst things a child can say to their mom, as there is bound to be that moment when you wonder if they are right... Of course she's young and doesn't think about these things before she says them. I'm hoping to remember that due to allergies she shouldn't roll down hills, but I thought it would be a fun thing to do together.
The rash isn't last long, only about 30 mins, a bath, a…

Make Your Quick Breads Healthy
Quick breads (chemically leavened, not yeast leavened) which most fruit and nut bread recipes are, were not developed until the end of the 18th century. This took place in America, where pearlash was discovered. Pearlash is a refined form of potash, and it produces carbon dioxide gas in dough. In American Cookery, ( 1796 - the first American cookbook), Amelia Simmons published recipes using pearlash, and the US exported some 8,000 tons to Europe in…

Living in the In-Between: Learning to be Content While You Wait
Friends, you have been on my mind lately, and on my heart. As I have sat before the Lord over the last few days, your faces and circumstances have played before my mind's eye. And I began to notice a common thread woven delicately between each story...
So many of you are living in the in-between.
Waiting.
For some of you, you are living out your days in a season of singleness. Anxiously awaiting for the Lord to fulfill…

10 Reasons I'm Glad We Can't Procreate Anymore
I love kids. If I didn't love kids, I wouldn't have had any. I love my 2 kids with all my heart, but I get asked every now and then if I think I'll ever have any more kids. My answer? Hell no.
First off, Hubby and I can't have any more kids. I'll leave y'all guessing as to which one of us had some alterations done, but the bottom line is the two of us, as a couple, have procreated all that we can procreate. And I think I speak for the both of us when I say,…

Each morning that we awake is a beautiful gift from God. As I look around this morning, I realize that there are so many things to be thankful for. Material things, yes, but more importantly, things that touch my heart. I love the way my children's hair looks when they crawl out of bed each morning. I admire the way my husband so willingly gets up each day to go to work happily. I can't say enough thank…

Tasty Tuesday: Chili Mistake
This is one of those creation recipes. I had sent Don to the store for the ingredients-- one of these being sausage. He brought home sausage links... and I figured "what the heck?" So, we dubbed this one Chili Mistake.…

I Kill Innocent Creatures -- And Then They Cry
The 53 stairs leading up to my house are a minefield of slimy, disgusting slugs. Every morning, without fail, I have to dodge, hop, skip, and weave my way down the stairs in an attempt to not step on one of the suckers. I always make sure I have some extra change on hand, though, just in case. If I squish a slug, I can assure you I will not be the one who scrapes it off the bottom of…

LUNCH WITH TWO WOMEN NAMED JOAN
When she was ten, my mother met a girl who shared her first name. They quickly became best friends and stayed so for the next 75 years. Together they shared schoolyard memories, weddings, and years of family get-togethers.
But in the year and a half since my father…

What my daughter has taught me Chapter 4
You neva knew nothin' about love!
My message and mantra has always been one of love. If you live your life and run your business from a place of love and abundance you can't really go wrong. I was running around, speaking and living my message never ever realizing I only had about a tenth of the whole picture.
In the past few months Lily has not only shown me the kind of love that allows you…

The Big Vaccine Review
I finally have the courage to offer my personal preferences when it comes to specific vaccines.
After reading several online article series and books, including “The Vaccine Guide” by Randall Neustaedter I learned that many instances of the diseases we fear have dropped over the last 50 years…

The Fundraiser Frenzy
This post is dedicated to Fadderly. Apparently, he thinks I'm lazy because instead of writing this morning I was sitting on the couch picking my nose. Our ideas of productivity are very different this morning. If you haven't checked out his blog go head over there now. I read his blog daily because he is a father of 4. That number alone makes him slightly more insane than me which makes me feel like it might be safe to decrease my Valium…
