10 Fun Summer Activities for Kids

10 Fun Summer Activities for Kids

I walked into a store today to pick up a picture frame and other nicknacks. After gathering my items and getting in line, an older lady looked down at my children (who were bouncing around like a couple of sugar-high human jumping jacks) and said, “I have two just like that. Well, my son has two just like that. I really think they should just have school all year round. Being out for the summer…

New This Autumn

Y'all are probably getting sick and tired of hearing me ramble on about autumn.  I know...

But please bear with me for at least one more post.  I've got plans for this season.  Big plans!  And I just wanted to take a few minutes to share them.  Maybe you could return the favor and share some of your Fall to-dos in the comments?…

Beautiful Miracles in Disguise

Yesterday, for the first time, I took my toddler, Presley to the movies.  We were out and about and happened to walk by the local cinema.  I quickly skimmed the movie listing and Rio 2 was about to begin in 15 minutes.  So what the heck, we went in.  Presley, probably like most toddlers (or not) is very busy.  She needs to touch, examine, taste, look and climb on everything.  Do you know how many ways a small child can…

Simple Guide to Making a Learning Basket at Home

It amazes me how quickly children grow and develop. One day you celebrate a few mumbles that sound like the word mama and soon enough they are learning their alphabet.

As a former teacher, I have been impatiently waiting to share some wonderful learning activities with my son that I used in my classroom. One activity I used frequently (especially when students were bored) was a Learning Basket.…

Scripture Cookies

Any of you Sunday School teachers know how difficult it is (or at least for me) to find creative things for my class to do. Luckily I am a helper to the teacher who happens to be my sister in law. She just retired from being a school teacher and has been teaching Sunday School for many years; So she has many ideas. In researching something different to do I stumbled upon Scripture Cookies. I…

Our 2013 Summertime Bucket List!

The last few days of Spring were rough.  I have no idea why it seems that things were insane all around me.  However, I am more than happy to move on to summer; it’s my favorite season anyway.  I’m excited about the new season, new start, relaxed atmosphere, warm weather and of course, the tons of…

Hiking! The perfect family outing

Sometimes, things just come together and you wind up having the perfect day.  Sunday was like that as Sophie and I discovered that less than a mile down the road from where we have lived for the past two years, is an enormous reservation with fantastic hiking, walking, and biking trails.

Holiday Extravaganza!

The past few weeks have been BUSY!  We had Missy's "Holiday Extravaganza" at gymnastics... kinda of like a recital, I guess... the parents got to come down to the gym floor with them and see what they could do.  It was so cute and she was so proud of herself!  As she was jumping and flying down the trampoline, she would look at me and shout, "WOOK MOM!! I DOING IT!! I DOING IT!!"  She even learned a new skill that the next level up does!…

Throwing An Adult Party....With Kids

We've all been there.  You're getting ready to throw a get together with friends or party at your house.  Maybe you don't have family to rely on nearby to take the kids to.  Maybe you have numerous adult attendees who don't have reliable childcare and would like to bring their children.  Maybe it's just easier to keep the kiddos at your house and not hassle with shuttling them around.

So, you decide to keep them around during your get together or party.  It's not ideal; it can…

Exercise For Kids In A Rainy World

I live in the Pacific Northwest.  We, of course, are known for our notorious Fall and Winter rainfall.  September and October this year were beautiful, with record breaking temperatures and historically low levels of rainfall.  We are making up for it in November.  Day after day, it's been nothing but rain.  And I am not talking the occasional sprinkle or light shower.  That cold, beating rain that comes with wind occasionally.

I have lived here most my life,…

Capitol Hill is a Zoo

You have to be a special kind of person to live in or near Washington, D.C. You can expect to pay a lot of money for the smallest amount of living space, you can never take parking for granted, and traffic is a guarantee. But Washington, D.C. is an area better suited for the type of person who likes to go out and do things. You can jog the National Mall, take advantage of one of the bike trails, or visit countless museums, exhibits, or other attractions. In addition, this is an area with no…
