A Mom Blog Social Network
It amazes me how quickly children grow and develop. One day you celebrate a few mumbles that sound like the word mama and soon enough they are learning their alphabet.
As a former teacher, I have been impatiently waiting to share some wonderful learning activities with my son that I used in my classroom. One activity I used frequently (especially when students were bored) was a Learning Basket.…Continue

Any of you Sunday School teachers know how difficult it is (or at least for me) to find creative things for my class to do. Luckily I am a helper to the teacher who happens to be my sister in law. She just retired from being a school teacher and has been teaching Sunday School for many years; So she has many ideas. In researching something different to do I stumbled upon Scripture Cookies. I…Continue

The last few days of Spring were rough. I have no idea why it seems that things were insane all around me. However, I am more than happy to move on to summer; it’s my favorite season anyway. I’m excited about the new season, new start, relaxed atmosphere, warm weather and of course, the tons of…Continue

Sometimes, things just come together and you wind up having the perfect day. Sunday was like that as Sophie and I discovered that less than a mile down the road from where we have lived for the past two years, is an enormous reservation with fantastic hiking, walking, and biking trails.
If you are ever trying to figure out something to do in NJ (especially…

The past few weeks have been BUSY! We had Missy's "Holiday Extravaganza" at gymnastics... kinda of like a recital, I guess... the parents got to come down to the gym floor with them and see what they could do. It was so cute and she was so proud of herself! As she was jumping and flying down the trampoline, she would look at me and shout, "WOOK MOM!! I DOING IT!! I DOING IT!!" She even learned a new skill that the next level up does!…

We've all been there. You're getting ready to throw a get together with friends or party at your house. Maybe you don't have family to rely on nearby to take the kids to. Maybe you have numerous adult attendees who don't have reliable childcare and would like to bring their children. Maybe it's just easier to keep the kiddos at your house and not hassle with shuttling them around.
So, you decide to keep them around during your get together or party. It's not ideal; it can…Continue

I live in the Pacific Northwest. We, of course, are known for our notorious Fall and Winter rainfall. September and October this year were beautiful, with record breaking temperatures and historically low levels of rainfall. We are making up for it in November. Day after day, it's been nothing but rain. And I am not talking the occasional sprinkle or light shower. That cold, beating rain that comes with wind occasionally.
I have lived here most my life,…

Today I got a lovely surprise; Mel of Latte Mum gave me the Sunshine Blogger Award. What is the Sunshine Blogger Award? Well, it is awarded to "bloggers who positively and creatively inspire others on the blogosphere.”

Here in the world of practically perfect princesses we continue to try to find fun ways to entertain children indoors during the summer months. We have something super cool that is perfect for children of all ages and we promise they will think Queen Mommy or King Daddy are awesome for coming up with this one!
Make a stop at your local grocery store and pick up a bag of dry ice. Make sure to…

You have to be a special kind of person to live in or near Washington, D.C. You can expect to pay a lot of money for the smallest amount of living space, you can never take parking for granted, and traffic is a guarantee. But Washington, D.C. is an area better suited for the type of person who likes to go out and do things. You can jog the National Mall, take advantage of one of the bike trails, or visit countless museums, exhibits, or other attractions. In addition, this is an area with no…Continue

I have enjoyed shopping for a very long time. Years ago it was combat boots, stone-washed jeans, and nerdy graphic tees in my shopping bags. Nowadays it’s Converse sneakers, a dry pair of pants, and more nerdy graphic tees. But my shopping bags aren’t for me anymore. They’re usually for my…Continue

Exercise; one of the few subjects I have little to say about. I have avoided regular or vigorous exercise my entire adult life. When I was in high school, I picked a maximum weight and vowed to diet and exercise if I ever reached it. Fortunately, the only time I ever reached the maximum weight, I was eight months pregnant.…Continue

Although I am a working mom, my toughest job is being a mom. Children are complicated and they don’t come with any instructions.
I taught for five years before switching careers in 2008. My students ranged in age from 3 to 14 and the subjects I taught ranged from Montessori to Spanish. Some of the more friendly parents would talk to me about their parenting issues, and I assumed that someday I would be well prepared to handle it. As a teacher, I had to deal with potty fights (use your…Continue

Do you NEVER have time to read anymore? Yeah, me neither. If I did, I don’t even know what I would read. I am so out of touch with books, I’m not even sure they still call them books. Reading a book is a big commitment for me. I not only invest my time, but I also invest a little bit of myself in the characters.
I first encountered The Hunger Games on Twitter. Next, my coworkers were talking about…Continue
