Making Decisions for Me or Three
A huge sigh of relief washes over me...and as soon as I feel the pressure release in my shoulders, something rushes over me. I'm thrust from the couch, as though I was just launched from a human rocket, and sprint to the bathroom. I barely make it to the toilet before I see my lunch floating on top and sinking to the bottom...and not realizing that this uneasiness is foreshadowing for the weeks to come.
I text Jason the next day, and I don't receive a reply. I feel like I'm in déjà…

Pro-Life Org Attacks Rape Victims Head On
Have you heard of the new organization Save the 1? Sounds like a nice name for an organization, right? Everyone likes the idea of “saving” people. And “the 1” has a romantic twist to it. But, if you take a look at this organization, it far from being the just another non-profit out to save the world. It is an organization, whose mission is singular and focused. It is a pro-life group who is specifically targeting pregnancies that result from rape. So, to this organization, who is the bad…

What Year Are We Living In?
It is 2012 and you would have thought that the treatment of women would be the same as men, right? Well some stories in the news have surprised me and made me think we are not living in 2012 at all. Not sure what year we are in, but the view of women is that we are controlled by hormones, we obviously cannot make a decision that is not controlled by our menstrual cycle and of course we have powerful ways of not getting pregnant if we were ever raped – legitimate rape or not? How can rape…

Depression, Alcohol And Therapy – By Shelly Long
A few months ago I completed Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. This was after nearly a year of one to one counselling covering a host of issues as diverse as my relationship with my parents, to the loss of an unborn child right through to getting out of bed in the mornings. I’ve also been in a very intense program with a charity called Addaction that has lasted 6 months and has also just come to an end. It would be fair to say I’ve done an awful lot of talking and nearly as much listening since…

Staying Sober, Day 63. "Dear Alcohol". By Shelly Long
Dear Alcohol.
"I know we've been through a lot together, and for a very long time you have been the one constant in my life. You've seen me through dark days, happy events, births, deaths, marriages, triumphs and tribulations. You have given me courage when I had none. You have never questioned or judged me. You have nursed me through the pains of defeat and partaken in the joys of victory. You have been my friend when others have left me by the wayside and turned their backs. You…

Staying Sober, Day 26
So, before I know it, it’s almost a month since I had my last drink. I’d like to say time has flown by, and for the most part it has. There was just one time, around Day 17 I think, when I was in real danger of falling off the wagon.
It was not only my birthday, but also the morning when things I had done in the past when I was still drinking caught up with me. Bad things. Some things that had I been sober at the time, would more than likely never have happened. It can be tough when…

Staying Sober, Day 14
It has been far from easy but I have managed to stay sober for 14 days now. I can’t remember the last time I said that. It was possibly as many as 30 years ago. That’s a lot of drinking, a lot of money and more importantly, a lot of mistakes made whilst under the influence of the Demon Drink. I have done it because I wanted to. Not because someone told me I had to. Of course, I have been told this in the past, as I have been told many other things I chose not to listen to. We all know the…

Staying Sober, Day 7 (or end of Week 1)
So, that's it then. Week one is nearly done and dusted (save for a few hours that will hopefully pass by incident free). I have spent the few days since my last post seeking out more apt sites than Bloggymoms.com for my posts which regular readers will realize have shifted somewhat from the very sad subject of Termination to Addiction and am not sure whether this will be my last post on the site. It would be a shame if that were the case as…

Staying Sober, Day 4
Oh no! I've broken my promise already..... No, not that one! I'm still sober as a judge (do you honestly believe Judges stay sober by the way? I don't). The one about updating my blog every day! Sorry dear friends, but I have been too busy "doing" rather than writing. And replying to messages of support and love from all corners of the world for which I am eternally grateful. As I have said to many whom have written to me, it's an "inside job with outside help" and I can't thank everyone…

Staying Sober, Day 1
Today I made the biggest decision of my life - to stop drinking. To stop drinking totally and for good. I won't pretend it's been easy, even though I am only 18 hours into my sobriety. In fact, it's been hell. I shake, am tearful and have sunken into a depression through my craving for Alcohol already. I wasn't always an…

When saying F&*K It is just too hard.
Today is exactly one of those days. ….I seem to be having the sort of day when everything is out to test my newly rediscovered will, or strength, or call it what you want ... This has not been helped by a number of things. The day started badly with a painful (and costly) trip the dentist, then finding out some bad news from distant places, then it continued on its downward spiral gradually and thoroughly through the day. And the knowledge I…

Coping with a Pregnancy Decision
If your partner or friend is facing a decision about an unexpected pregnancy, you are probably worried about her. You may be thinking about how the decision could affect you. As she considers parenthood, abortion, or adoption, you may be feeling scared, guilty, sad, shut out, or just plain confused. Even though you may be trying to be strong for her, your own feelings may be quite intense. You may be…

Essential F&*K It Exercises – No 1, Relaxing
Most or nearly all of us don't know how stressed and tense we really are. Yes, even you! You're actually really relaxed and you have all your sh%t together? Right then, let's just see about that.
As you are sitting and reading this, focus on your shoulders – you can probably feel them as you relax them. Now move to your neck, feel the stress in those higher vertebrae dropping away. Next your jaw, let the jaw feel slack as you relax it. Then your forehead (if you are still…

The Last Bit To Overcome....
To forgive oneself is not the same as forgetting an abortion. The child can never be returned. Memories will remain, but the negative feelings towards oneself can be reconciled. Abortion is a far greater dilemma for men than researchers, counsellors and women have ever begun to realize. Many men…

HOW ABORTION AFFECTS MEN: They Cry Alone
A university psychology class was viewing a film showing prenatal development. Suddenly, a student, a young man, rushed from the room. The professor followed him and found him leaning against the wall in the corridor. He was sobbing. All he could say was "I didn't know it was a baby! I would never have paid for it if I had known a baby was there!"
The "it" for which he had paid was an abortion. His tears made it apparent…
