Quick and Easy Breakfast Ideas
I don't know about you, but mornings in my house are pretty busy. Between my husband, five kids, homeschooling, and house work I usually tend to forget all about breakfast. That is until around lunch time when I'm completely starving and ready to devour everything in…

How Much Is Enough?

If you’ve ever read anything about weight loss, or seen any diet commercial, you are familiar with the concept of portion control. Yes, it’s all about serving size. You’ve heard, as I have, that restaurants are killing us with giant portions, that protein servings should be the size of your palm, that it isn’t what you’re eating, it’s the amount you’re consuming that’s matters.
Over the past several months, as I’ve been striving to lose weight and get healthier, I’ve…

OMG!!! Can You Believe I Shopped Organic?
Keeping up with this new dieting experience, I had to pick up a few items I kept forgetting to look for. Who knew Walmart and the local grocery stores sold organic food? I know, I know...that's a given. But, I never had an interest in them because I assumed the price would be way to high for my piggy bank. That was definitely true when considering the price of items at the grocery and "real" food grocery stores with the price…

The GF It-List
For the most part I have stayed Gluten Free since my fast in January. I've tried a few GF products and have compiled a list of my favorites (and two to stay away from!).
Fruits and veggies are the biggest part of my diet though. I'm still trying to find different recipes that work for me that are healthy but aren't time consuming to make. As a toddler mom, I need to use every minute…

Eating Un-Favorite Foods

Getting Toddlers to Try (and eat) Healthy Foods
On my own personal journey of eating healthier, I discovered that I was spending a LOT more time in the kitchen than the days gone by of mac & cheese, chicken nuggets, hot dogs and Gold Fish. Cutting and peeling an apple doesn't seem like a very time consuming process, but when every meal and snack is prepared from whole, clean, healthy foods, you up your time in the kitchen by at least double. BUT... that time in the kitchen allowed me to stumble upon a very good way to both introduce…

Is Your Tween Hiding Her Lunch
| REAL GRANDMOM ASKS: My 11 year old granddaughter is hiding her sandwiches and lunchables that are packed for her lunch in her room; sometimes before she even leaves for school. She takes a bite out of the sandwich or lunchable and puts in back in the container and seals it up, then hides it in her room. She doesn’t have an explanation for this and you can tell she is embarrassed when you talk to her about it. None of… |

Bestowed Box of Healthy Food Product Samples - Review and Giveaway!!!
My older sister is a juicer / healthy food eating type of girl and I always admired her dedication...and shape...but it's just not me! Those who know me, know I'm not the healthiest eater. I choose to eat what tastes good. I like potatoes, ribs, wings, BBQ sauce and OMG french fries! Things that can be found in the freezer section and other things that will have me sitting back with my pants unbuttoned, uncomfortably full, but…

Are There Any Healthy Eaters Out There?

My family and I just returned from vacation with my in-laws and my brother-in-law’s family. My father-in-law told me that my pancakes were going to make him fat! My mother-in-law taught my kids a song about a fat girl that no one wants! And the usually simple act of feeding my kids in public appeared as dysfunctional as an SNL skit! For example, I was feeding Bobby salmon or tilapia to ensure that he consumed some protein, or even gnocchi—one of the newer foods in his…

The Kitchen Think: C'mon... Stop Taking Photos of Everything You Eat!
Okay, I'm guilty. I’ve done it many times. I’m sure you have, too… at least once. Now I’ve come to believe it’s just plain rude.
I’m talking about taking cell phone photos of your food in restaurants.
You know what's most annoying? The flash. If you need a flash, then…

Sanitary Spooning
The thought finally occurred to Lorin and I that we should probably start teaching Miranda to spoon-feed herself.
This is something that I have been dreading because I have serious issues with cleanliness.
You are looking at a person who has her child master the sippy cup, only to bring the bottle back because she can't handle the sticky, juice-splattered floors.
Oh the torture!
Despite my inner…

It's Not Rocket Science
Last week, I did a post about the child obesity epidemic in the United States. In that post, the first point I wanted to make is that food is fuel. When you realize that very fact, it becomes easier to make better choices. It’s all about how you view yourself.
If you could buy yourself a brand new car and…

Did the Baked Ziti Bomb or Was It a Success?
When I was a child, one of my favorite foods was pasta. For almost two years straight, I ate pasta with butter and/or mac-and-cheese for two…and sometimes even three meals a day! My mother was so fearful about my rejection of all other foods that she took me to the doctor who told her that I was just going through a phase. Well, he was certainly right…because now I eat all foods. It only took me about 22 years to get to this place!
Well, I guess my little apples didn’t fall far from…

Baby Bok Choy with Crispy Tofu
Yesterday, I was shopping at a local market and came across some hand-packaged baby bok choy. There were 5 perfect heads of bok choy in each bag, and they were charging less than $2.00 for all of them! I love a good deal even more than I love baby bok choy, so I quickly grabbed some, tossed it into my reusable shopping bag, and headed home to make a simple, delicious dinner.…
