Growing up in the era of the Cold War and spending my Sundays at church created a unique mixture of nightmares combining World War III and the Apocalypse. I had horrible dreams of the world gone awry, marching armies, and black shadowy spirits coming to eat my dog. In one of my dreams,  I was with some neighbors in an underground bomb shelter. It was outfitted with a basketball court. At least that dream offered some potential fun, except for the fact that we might run out of food.

Recently a friend posed a question.  She wondered if it was wrong for a mom to hate a 6th grade girl.
