Mid-thirties is a troubling time to start dating; everything seems so much more serious.  Gone are the days of happily waking up in someone’s home and then asking what they are doing later.  Instead we have the days of letting appropriate time pass before calling and getting home by a reasonable hour to make sure the kids are fine for school tomorrow.

Last week one of my students submitted an assignment that was handwritten.  The problem?  I don't accept handwritten assignments, only typed.  I've made this policy adamantly clear on numerous occasions: on the syllabus, during in-class announcements, and in a direct email to the student.



The next class I handed the assignment back, ungraded.



The student was incredulous.  "Do you really mean that you're not accepting this?"
