Preventing or Decreasing Long-term Problems in Children
Parents/primary caregivers are the most important advocate for their children in all areas of their development, including social-emotional. May is Mental Health Awareness month. Children as young as newborns can have social-emotional issues. Research shows, behavior problems that surface in early childhood are the single best predictor for several long-term outcomes, such as adolescent delinquency, gang involvement, incarceration, substance abuse, divorce, unemployment (Center for…

5 Apps to Boost Your Productivity
Working from home is awesome, right? I mean, you get to work in your pajamas, free from distractions such as coworkers bugging you with mindless gossip. You can watch your morning show, get a load of laundry done, or go out for a walk without anyone wondering where you are. But then, there is the ever-present…

Can you Really Make Money off your Blog?
Article by Wendy McCance
When I started blogging last year, I never dreamed that I would switch over to writing full-time. I also never thought that I would like blogging so much that I would create all of the things I have put together on this site. Life is full of surprises and when you sit back and allow the story to unfold, amazing things seem to happen.
Switching over to a dot com has been the best decision I have made. The freedom it allows you is…

Mother’s Day (By Stacy Hladek)
Mother’s Day is May 12th, that is a week from this Sunday. There are likely to be lots of articles to suggest ways to honor your mom or help your children honor their mom. I would like to take a different approach and speak to moms directly. Give yourself permission to pat yourself on the back and to take a break. Parenting is both the toughest and most rewarding job in the world. This is a good time to remind moms (fathers too) that you have to fill your own bucket before…

How to Handle Biting in Young Children (By Stacy Hladek)
I recently spent an afternoon with a good friend, who has a toddler. While we were talking about parenting she told me her son has started biting his baby brother. My friend said nothing she or her husband had tried is working. Her son bit another child at childcare this week for the first time
Biting is a behavior that many toddlers display at one time or another. It can be something that makes the adults feel frustrated and helpless. There is hope!
Whenever a child is…

Twit Tips!

A couple of years ago I wrote a little piece about Twitter Dos and Don’ts. It was pretty popular, if I may say so myself. I still get a lot of questions about Twitter, so I thought I would write an updated list of Twitter tips!
The question I get most often is: How…

The Quiet One: A Story About Selective Mutism
My youngest son was always quite different from my other children. He was the smallest and most clingy. He could never be still and loved to eat. He cried the most and disliked being anywhere without me. But most of all, he never really cared to be around anybody that wasn't me. He would throw a fit whenever anyone would try to hold him. He wouldn't look at anyone either, his face turned in the opposite direction. At the time I…

I have found two new amazing tools that I just have to share with you. Let me just say right up front that I am not getting any money from these companies. The reason I want to share what I have found is because they are brilliant. I have tried them out and have fallen in love with the amazing amount of information I can gather from these sources.
I promised you that as I put together my new website that I would share information, and, I am staying true to my word. I…

Have you heard of "Tinder" yet?
Since most of my readers are women with children aged 33-45, most of you probably haven’t heard of tinder, the new iphone app. I just learned about it last week from Tabitha and I thought the whole concept was rather fascinating. Fascinating that people in their late teens, early 20′s spend most of their time connecting with people via social media and fascinating that as Mothers we have another…

A Party Girl's Guide to Pregnancy
After I got knocked up, I spent a lot of time contemplating the important issues of pregnancy. The stuff that really matters about parenthood.
You know, like:
But when will I get to go to New York now?
Or:
Why did I not lose my post-wedding weight before I got pregnant and even fatter?
And:
When can I legitimately start drinking wine again?
Obviously I am being facetious. I worried – worry – about lots of…

What Your Profile Pic Really Says
Google, Facebook, Twitter . . . a number of sites give you space to share a personal photo. You need to take full advantage of this because nothing says “I don’t care” like a blank profile box. However, when you’re operating a business or presenting yourself as a professional you need to exercise extreme caution. The wrong…

Sometimes You Just Need A Mental Health Day
When I used to work at our local auto plant, I would take the occasional "mental health day." The days in the factory could be gruelling. In the summer, the place felt like a sauna with nothing more than some unproductive fans swirling the stale, hot air around the plant. The winters were fairly chilly. People would wear heavy layers, hats and everyone was thankful for the wool gloves we were required to wear on most jobs.
Your days at the plant were filled with small breaks that…
