Packing Lightly? What a laugh!
When you have a baby you need to bring all the things a baby would need with you. Bottles, nappies, change of clothes with many options depending on the weather, medicine, cream and the list continues. If you have more than one baby, which we did it does feel like you are packing to never to return to your house ever again, this of course is due to the large amount of stuff that is needed.
Upon talking with my cousin who has recently had twin boys last year she is dealing with the…

Two of Everything: Does Toy Sharing Instill Generosity?
It is perhaps one of the most frequently asked questions from mothers of twins: When I have twins, do I purchase two of everything or do I instill a sense of sharing in them from an early age? Sadly, the answer is still not clear and may never be. But every mother can think about what message she wants to send to her children through their gifts.…

The Love of Books
Do your kids love books and going to the library? Mine do, they just adore it. Going to the library is a big deal and a great outing for the twins. Last Friday we went to return books that we had borrowed and the girls wanted to borrow more. While we were there they wanted to read some books, which is really just looking at the pictures.

Waving the White Flag
There comes a time in every person’s life when they come to the realization that they have to wave that proverbial white flag. We all have that moment when we come to the understanding that while we may have our pride, we just can’t do it alone and that help is not only required but mandatory. I had that moment, and not only did it hit me but I crashed through the barricades into a brick wall.
I like to believe that I’m super-woman and can do everything; I have a demanding…

OZ, the Great and Powerful
As a family we don't go to many non-animated films. Mostly because none are made. The girls are age 9, so movies marketed to their age group; Twilights, The Hunger Games, The Die Hard Series, I just don't think are appropriate. So I thought maybe Oz The…

Are The Terrible Two's A Real Thing??
It's not fair to compare the girls and say one went through this and the other one didn't (although that's how I was thinking earlier today). But as I sit here thinking about what I really want to say, I started to think about how "at this age" they both have had different circumstances. M is 26 months old right now and will do just about anything she can to antagonize L; When L was 26 months old, M was only 16 months old new to walking around and barely talking. L didn't have much to…

I hate Crayons!!
It’s blessed Sunday evening, and work is around the corner. Wonderful, amazing work.
I don’t know how “stay at home moms” do it – I really don’t. From Friday evening to the end of Sunday - I am literally ready to pull out my hair and scream to the world. I’m tired, I’m worn out, and I’m looking so incredibly forward to the work week beginning – and that was said no sane parent ever. To be honest, while I feel that way - at the bottom of it all, I’m feeling like a really bad…

Birthdays with two so close in age
M's second birthday was in December. She seemed to really understand what was going on. She knew we were going to Chuck E. Cheese for her party (and she was so excited), she knew she was going to get presents, family was coming because it was HER DAY! She loved looking the different cakes and picking out which one that SHE wanted. This WAS HER DAY COMING UP, AND SHE KNEW IT!
L on the other hand (although she is older), it had been ten months since her birthday, so…

TWINS?!!!! Are you freaking kidding me?!
We had an appointment scheduled for my first sonogram. Claude appeared to be excited, I think it was because I was depressed, and wanted to bet I was having twins. He did not care. His actions showed that as time progressed. Claude and #4 kept telling me I was having twins. #4 wanted to have a ‘sick day’ so she…

Mommi Dearest (poem)
The hardest job I’ve ever had
has little Napoleons for bosses
they are constantly making a mess
and I often cut my losses
no longer can I hang out
because my hours are grueling
on call 24 7
“wait…is that a cat that I hear mewling?”
no its just one of the mini me’s
jabbering at 2am
the twins decided to have a play date
at dark thirty
on a whim
this job saps my resources
I’m spending money on a…

You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.
It was 5pm and Kevin and I had just made our way to the NICU, very excited for our daily skin to skin with the twins.
The nurse was new (to us) and we had just started down our list of questions about their day and the night before.
We were told everything was good but they though Aiden had some gas he needed to pass.
Kevin and I got out of our coats, I dropped off my milk and we scrubbed in.
I then lifted the flaps to Aiden’s isolette cover.
My heart…

Missing Ballot Questions
So I voted.
I did my civic duty.
Exercised my right.
Which is the only exercising I have done all week. It was exhausting, so I'm counting it. Walking from the car, maneuvering out of the way of all the cottonheads, making sure the boys aren't sitting at the feet of the person next to me .... phew ... I need to lay down.
And while I was looking over my ballot, voting for the lesser of a few evils, I…

Wealthy in Love
Did you remember to set your clocks back today? Did your children and animals abide by this new time change? No, of course not! You were probably like me, up way before the sun trying to coax your little ones into believing that it was still time to sleep.
I hope you had better luck then I did! At six am I…

Our (baby)Gateway Drug
(Originally posted on www.adoptionistas.com)
I’ll admit it, I am a reformed baby gater.
There was a time (pre-children, pre-having-a-mobile-baby, and those fervent college years studying idealistic child development) where I stood on the other side of the fence gate.
Other than the necessary barriers to prevent children from tumbling down stairs, I though baby gates were a) for lazy parents, b)…
