There are some misconceptions about my parenting skills floating around out there and I think I need to clear some of them up. For honesty sake. For clarity. And for me. 'Cause it's fun!
I do not have a baby potty in my kitchen for my - potty trained for over a year - 3 year old to use. With 4 bathrooms in this house, that would simply be a waste of time and open up the opportunity for my 1 year old to get to it before I do. And if she does.... well, let's just say the water bill…

We had a friend's daughter here the other morning. From about 7:45 to 2, I had four wonderful, happy, playing children. They colored, played school, basketball, watch Mickey Mouse and thoroughly enjoyed each other's company. It was really nice. I was not beckened every five seconds and actually managed to get some things I wanted to do, done!
I savored it. Drank it in. Relished the peaceful play. Pretended it was all because I was a good mother and sitter.
And then she…

Always Late
I am always late. I can't stand it. It drives me nuts. Seriously. I used to be on time, even early. But something happened in the growing of my family. I lost track of time. Or at least the ability to manage my time!
It is funny how that happens. How time seems to flutter away, making my goals of showing up places rested, coiffed, and well equip to deal with my kids impossible. Now I…

I've noticed lately that all my children seem to hear from me is "Hold on", "Just a minute", "In a second", and "I will as soon as I {fill in the blank}". I seem to be so busy with cooking, cleaning, chores, diaper changes, blogging - let's be honest - and other time consuming tasks to handle all of their requests the minute they are made.
Wait - hold on - Sarah is up and I need to get her out of her Pull Up.
I am well aware that my "other stuff" gets in the way of…

I didn't know.
I didn't.
I am actually a little in shock!
I had no clue that when I became a stay at home mom that, one day - much sooner than I would have anticipated, I would actually be a stay at home maid! I don't like it. It is not what I signed up for. I stay home to raise my kids, not to clean 8 hours a day to no avail.
If I had known, if one of my mommy friends at the time had told me, I think I would have stayed at work. I would have put my…

Disclaimer: This is gross. Very gross. Possibly the grossest thing I have shared on here. So you know it is in the uber gross category. But I have to share because Mother's will understand. But I recommend you hide your children's eyes and possibly your husband's. Only the strong can handle it.
Megan has a bit of an upset stomach. I bet you know where this is going. I'll pause while you go get a barf bag.
Are you back? OK
So, all day, she's been presenting…

I love bows. I have 3 little girls and I love that I can dress them up, even if it is just jeans and a little shirt and then make them look amazing with a perfectly matching, pretty bow in their hair. I would love to make bows for them but I have no talent in that arena at all. So, I turn to the bow making companies to make something that is not too heavy for my daughter's hair but still matches the clothes I want to dress them in!

Six months ago tomorrow, my first blog entry was published, A Joyful Mother (
http://www.adayinmotherhood.com/2010/05/be-joyful-mother.html#comments), thus launching me into a world I knew nothing about nor had the where withal to navigate.
I started with the idea that I would just type. Use this forum to get it all out, find supporters, and live out - mini style, my dream of writing for an audience.…

On Thanksgiving, I got up at 6:30, showered - WOOHOO - dressed, complained about my hair in the mirror, complained about my weight in the mirror, and wondered where all the wrinkles came from. But I also ran my list of all that I have and took a moment to thank God for them.
I passed my husband, snoring in bed, knowing that his promise to get up and help me would be in vain. I am ok with that though as it is always easier to get stuff done when it is just me. No arguments about how…

There is Nothing Worse...
... than folding and putting away all of the laundry piled on the couch - and then finding another full load in the dryer.
... than changing your baby's diaper - just so she can poop in it.
... than cleaning your entire kitchen - only to have the kids request a snack that requires your kitchen to become unclean.
.... than the kids wanting to finally sleep in when you have somewhere to be, but being up at the crack of…

Ok - how bored is America?
I just saw that Bristol Palin and her partner are receiving DEATH THREATS on Dancing With the Stars?
Really? Are you kidding me?
Look - I realize that there is a ton of controversy over this woman making the finals of this show. I understand that. I, personally, think that she is as deserving as anyone to be there. I have enjoyed watching her come from a closed up, scared to death, young single mother with no idea how to dance, to a…

I love books. Always have. We have a million of them. From children's books that clutter the shelves, well worn and read, to my more mature books, boxed and protected away from tiny hands. We can not have enough books.
I am always on the lookout for new and exciting books that not only are interesting to my children, but also illustrate a lesson to be learned. A new voice that my children can relate to and understand.
This weekend, they met Ed. I originally thought…

November 20 is National Adoption Day. A day to raise awareness and celebrate adoptive parents and children everywhere. It's funny, I never even knew it existed, or really cared, until recently. Until my blog, really. Until I forced myself to post honestly about my feelings, about a myriad of emotions as a mother and realized, this event- my adoption - is more important to me than I thought.
I was an abused child. The daughter of a schizophrenic mother and truck driver father. The 5th…

The Sand Man
I think the Sand Man is lost. I think he headed this way when me moved, got lost in the trees and gave up. I do not think he has made an attempt since. I am exhausted. The victim of a teething baby who thinks that 2 - 4am is an appropriate play time. A three year old who thinks that just because she has an hour nap at school, she is done for the day. And a four year old who thinks that being up late is "super cool".
I would like anyone who knows the…

I am 38 today.
I am proud of that fact. Happy that another year in in the hopper and a new one is on the horizon. I consider the fact that I made it through a grand achievement. I don't lie about my age. And even though I may not wear it as well as I would like to, I'll happily take it. Every single year.
There are a lot of reasons that I should not be here. Bad decisions made by those around me and bad decisions made by myself could have led down roads deemed unsavory and…

I was driving to the store to get a paper yesterday and I passed a sign at the church up the road. It said, A Parent's Life is a Child's Manual.
I thought it profound but I had three kids in the car, screaming at each other for some reason or another and forgot about it. I managed them in the store, I am getting pretty good at it, and on the way home passed the sign again.
"A Parent's Life is a Child's Manual
It hit me with a kind of jolt that this is a…
