For my new readers, “Taking Back Tuesday” is my personal, one woman crusade to give meaning and purpose to Tuesdays, by far the lowliest of the sept jours (That’s French for “seven days.” Figured it makes me sound high society.) Here’s how I will be making the most of this Tuesday, October 23,…

I bet you’re on the edge of your seat in anticipation of learning the five articles from my hoard of nostalgia that met their demise on “Taking Back Tuesday.” The wait is over. Here they are in no particular order of…

This morning when the elevator doors opened to our department’s floor, a wash of hot, sticky, lifeless air smacked me in the face, and I immediately broke into a full body sweat.
It’s only May.
Clearly, Houston, we have a problem.
There is no way in hell five…

It’s Tuesday, so you know what I’m going to do? I’m “Taking Back” blasé Tuesday by going for a lunchtime run.
Please.
I don’t want to come off as some kind of hero, a disciplined soldier who makes no exceptions, cuts no corners, dodges no workouts. That, my friends, is not…

I’ve decided to refocus my writing back to the well from which it came, and that is with the divine, maternal, tactless wisdom of my mom, the Captain. And not that it can ever repay her for “carrying me for nine LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOng months.,” but I figure its wise for the sake of my place on the offspring…

I don’t know if anyone else does this, or will admit to doing it in a public forum, but I run entire conversations with people before I ever come face to face with them. People I know, and people I’ve never met.
For example, If I’m arguing with someone, I like to practice my side of things before the main event, so as not to get caught off guard by any scenario that might be thrown my way. I guess, in that way, it’s kind of like kissing your pillow, or imitating a…

I want to be more disciplined and productive writer, so I’m working on giving myself a daily structure to force this to happen. I need to keep myself on a real short leash lest I risk hanging myself with my own procrastination.
Last week I decided to “Take Back Tuesdays,” a one-woman campaign to establish lowly Tuesday to a respectable place in the order of days. I don’t know that it’s ever been said by anyone that Tuesday is their favorite day of the week. For most,…

I want Jeffrey to like me. I mean that. I don’t want to be “besties” per say. Nothing strikes the fear of God in me more than hearing the mother of a high school or college-aged student say, “We’re really more like friends than mother-daughter/son.” I run away in horror and pray for mercy on their souls. Big…

I though tthat was my cherubic child pictured on the billboard next to that fine, strapping Marine in dress blues. It took me a while to positively identify my Jeffrey as the little boy looking so graciously at his patriotic friend. I had to pause and wonder, “What the hell is he doing on a “Toys for Tots” billboard? Not that everyone wouldn’t like to see a few more digits on the ol’ pay stub, but Jeff and I are doing well enough. I don’t know that I’d classify us as “needy”…

The Christmas tree is up and looking fab from mid-tree on up.
Jeffrey will not rest until every branch within reach is bare.
Thanks for the inspiration, little man.
As always, please feel free to drop a rhyme of your own in the “Comment” space below.
It’s Tuesday,…

Let me begin by stating that my stance on the whole breastfeeding versus formula feeding debate is quite simply--To each her own. I just believe that it’s a personal choice, and the common denominator of both options is that you love your baby enough to remember to feed them. Momstrust me, feeding your baby is a biggie in the eyes of child protective services. I’d also feel torn advocating one way or the other as I self-identify as healthy, well-adjusted, formula raised breast…
