Not too long ago Ben and I were on our way to pick up Rikki and we were driving through a town that only days before had a tornado go through the town so you can imagine that there are trees downs, houses demolished and debris everywhere. As we are driving by this house where several men were trying to cover the house with a tarps Ben blurts out “that sucks for him he has a hole in his roof and it’s going to rain”… I turn around give him a funny look and tell him that he can’t say sucks. He…

First, thank you to everyone who is serving or has served our country. Without all of you we would not be where we are now. Thank you from the very bottom of my heart.
It has been a great weekend so far. We were able to get a LOT of yard work done on Saturday. We got a rose bush planted, three peonies planted in front of the house, decorative iris’ planted out back by the deck and by the garage, planted a climbing hydrangea at the corner of the house and fence line,…

Very early this morning (4:21 to be exact) I realized that doing math shortly after being abruptly woken up is not a strong skill that I have. Here is how I came to know this fact.
Shortly after 4 am I woke up to the sound of Parker chewing on what I thought was a bone. I woke enough to tell him to go into the kitchen, but not enough to open my eyes. As I heard his…

Because I am so good at repressing memories, good and bad memories, there are not many that I events that I can remember like they happened yesterday. September 11th, however, I can remember.
When the news covered the first plane colliding into the towers I was in the bathroom finishing up my makeup, running just a bit late as…

When I walked into the house yesterday after work hubs told me that we needed to talk and handed me Jenny’s report card. Normally, he does this in front of the kids to freak them out. You know, tell them that they got an F in a subject but won’t show them the report card. I took the report card from hubs and looked at it, expecting to see good grades as usual when all of the sudden my eyes…

The first day evening that Alix, French exchange student, was at our house we had a sleepover. Hannah, who is a friend of Jenny’s and who hosted Alix the first week of Alix’s trip to the United States, Alix and Jenny were very excited to have a sleep over. The girls made pizzas for dinner.…

I read an article today about a school in Chicago banning students from bringing their lunch from home. Forcing students to pay $2.50 per meal, unless of course the family qualified for reduced or free school meals or there was a doctor’s note for allergies. Really?? Are you kidding me? To me this is a crock of shit. I when my girls were younger they loved to take lunch to school, my son is not so much into bringing his…

A topic that is not often openly talked about, but very important to me. April is National Sexual Assault Awareness Month. I encourage everyone to speak to your family about this issue. The more we know, the more we can prevent. Please continue to check my blog for more information, resource and stories.

You couldn’t have asked for a better day for soccer. Mid 60′s, sun shining and a gentle breeze.
The boys have made such progress since last fall. They are starting to…

She drove the car along the wooded path, around the build and parked under the lamp post knowing she was going to be in building until after dark and since this was her first time being there she thought better to be safe than sorry, besides you never know what could happen. As she walked on the sidewalk to the front door she noticed daffodils that had already bloomed, this brought a smile to her face. She also noticed a small sign near a bush that had not yet…

Oh what a night…
Eight 1 Cup portions of egg whites, scrambled individually and portioned individually for hubs. Part of his strict diet in prep for his upcoming body building competition. Tonight, I tried something a little bit different for a little added flavor I put in the extra basil, thyme and sage from the…

I love watching “reality” tv. Survivor, Big Brother, Biggest Loser, Teen Mom, Hell’s Kitchen (or Helen’s Kitchen as it is referred to around our house), Extreme Home Makeover (which makes me cry every single time we watch it) and so on. This past weekend the kids and I were at my parents house helping mom put together some dishtowel pot holder thingies for Jenny’s fundraiser. We were talking about all of the reality tv show and this…

Today, I write about being the wife of a body builder. The 16 week diet, thankfully or sadly whichever you prefer we are in week 14. Thankfully because we are 16 days from his competition and sadly because I know that it has to get worse before it gets better.

I first read this story ( http://www.connectmidmissouri.com/news/story.aspx?id=586907 ) and thought to myself “That poor family.” This happened very close to home so my first action was to post this story on Facebook and Twitter, it was the least I could do. The more people to read this and be aware of what had taken place the better. I would certainly want everyone who read the story to do the same had that been my…

One thing that gets me really excited is getting something new for the house. About two or three weeks ago I noticed that our vacuum was starting to act up. Saturday while running some errands I decided to pick out a new vacuum. I had been debating on getting a stand up or a canister vacuum. I have always had the stand up vacuums, but I remember as a kid my mom had a canister vacuum at one time and it was so much easier to carry up and down the stairs. So I had found one that I wanted, a…

Our oldest daughter has been accepted to go to France in May with the French Club at her school. We are super excited that she will get to experience life away from home for a week in Lyon, France and very proud that she was one of the few that were accepted.
They did one fundraiser earlier in the school year but have not done anything since. I am looking for ideas on what to do for a fundraiser to help her get a plane ticket. One thing that I thought about doing is the…

February Fact #17
It all started ohh, about two years ago. Hubs and I made some major changes to our lives.
In December of 2008, 12/26/2008 to be exact, we stopped smoking. We had both tossed around the idea for several months but never really committed until that day. I wasn’t sure that both of us…
