I pulled the chair into the stream of sun pouring in through our dirty patio window and took a seat, tucking my knees into my chest.
I let the heat warm my face and the light kiss my soul.
I let myself just be in the moment.
Then I reached for a book.
“It’ll be ok,” he said as he came up from the basement.
I just looked at him and buried my head back…

His voice carried through the screen door with a passing warm breeze.
“It’s gorgeous out babe. You should really come outside.”
I saw that he had pulled out the plastic lawn chairs that had been hibernating in the shed for the winter.
I looked down at my pajama bottoms that had been comfortably molded to my legs after a few days of wearing them.
My shirt was wrinkled from laying in bed all morning.
I brushed my hands through my tangled hair.
I didn’t…

Shawn: So babe…
Me: Not tonight.
Shawn: Come on.
Me: I don’t feel good.
Shawn: You never feel good. I’ll make your gallbladder feel better.
Me: Nope. I think you’re going to have to make do with a pig in a blanket.
Shawn: You’re not fat.
Me: What?
Shawn: You’re not fat.
Me: ….
Shawn: What are you talking about.
Me: A pig in a blanket. The one you eat.
Shawn: ….
Me: Google it.
Shawn: The hell? I…

The nurse directed me back to a small room in the ER where Dr. B, my psychiatrist, was waiting.
I flashed a nervous smile, pulled my sleeves over the self-inflicted cuts on my arm and said, “I’m not doing good.”
He motioned to the chair and I sat.
“I think we need to change our plans Kim. I’m going to put you on a mood stabilizer and an…

Sometimes, you just need to hear three little words.
You know those days when your kid “accidentally” emptied the box of Lucky Charms on the counter because “I had to get the green marshmellow hats”….
Then you had no idea that you signed up for “entertainment” while eating breakfast when you catch a glimpse of your dog’s b-hole of fury explode on your lawn…
And it gets stuck in his fur…
Then you have to give him a bath…
Then your…
ContinueReaching out my weary hand from the darkness that enveloped me was the most difficult part on my road to recovery from postpartum depression and postpartum anxiety.
But it was necessary.
I couldn’t start my fight without asking for help, for leaning upon the tremendous support of my husband, family, friends and my awesome psychiatrist.
It didn’t mean that I was a failure.
It didn’t mean that I was a bad Mom.
It didn’t mean that I was weak.
It meant…

Bellies here.
Bellies there.
Babies growing in bellies everywhere.
Is it just me or is the world’s population ready to explode with babies?
Every time I open my reader, there is another announcement of a pregnancy…
It’s like I’m surrounded by hormonal words and ice cream hogger.
But it’s very exciting.
I was looking on Etsy (I may have an addiction) for some fun clothes to adorn a baby boy that’s about to make his appearance sometime soon,…

No matter how deep my mind is lost in a labyrinth of dreams, one ear always remains keenly alert to the noises in the room adjacent to ours.
The wrangling of blankets or a soft voice calling will ground me immediately from slumber.
Today at 6:35 am, Chunky is awake.
I could hear him stretching out his drowsiness and his overly dramatic yawns.
His feet hit the hardwood floors with an energy I envy.
“I’m not ready yet,” I pleaded faintly to…

Because hair doesn’t grow on steel.
Obviously.
It’s a well known fact that I would drop Shawn in a heartbeat if Chuck Norris said:
“Hey Kim, there’s an open spot on my beard. It has your name on it.”

I bawled my eyes out while handing in Chunky’s Junior Kindergarten registration forms.
“Are you ready?” Shawn asked when the car came to a halt in the parking lot.
I looked down at my hands that had a firm hold on the forms I procrastinated to fill then gave Shawn a nod.
“I don’t want to go in there!” Chunky shouted from the backseat.
“But it’ll be so much fun,” Shawn reassured him.
He huffed as his feet hit the wet pavement and…

The sun rested upon my shoulders infusing warmth into my winter sodden soul. I stood with my feet planted in 3 inches of snow that my son had been anticipating every morning that we woke up for “cereal time”.
I watched as his excited little legs carried him swiftly out the back door and clumsily across the winter landscape.
His laughter animated the air.
And these smiles filled my heart with so much love.…

It’s another night where sleep dances in a ridiculed fashion before my heavy eyes. I’m so exhausted yet the pain keeps me quite alert and ever so conscious of each electrifying nerve screaming through my right leg. And then there are the terrifying thoughts that flood and weaken my soul. I try so hard to fight them.
But with only a few hours of sleep at a time, those thoughts sometimes seem quite logical.
That’s when they worry me the most.
Which is why, I’m sitting…

You may not remember the scary night when the cops and paramedics came to take Momma to the hospital and I hope that you never do.
But I?
I will always remember.
I will remember your tiny fingers brushing the hair off my face.
I will remember your big brown eyes full of worry and concern.
I will remember you telling Daddy that “Momma is sad”.
I will remember the scared crack in your voice when you begged “Momma be happy”.
I will remember you…

Even through the depths of a heavy slumber, I can always tell when he’s awake. Perhaps it’s my internal clock that is permanently synchronized to his unwavering schedule. Or perhaps it’s a mother’s intuition that can sense when my babe stretches his little body to life to greet the day. Either way, it is always his sweet smiling face I wake up to that assures me that it’s a brand new day.
A brand new start where I can wipe my hands clean of yesterday’s pain.
We started our…

My body weaved in between elbow jabs and innocent shoves as I pushed my way through the crowd of clumsy teenage bodies. I had almost made it to the other side when I heard my name being shouted. I quickly snapped my head towards the unfamiliar voice where he stood.
“Kim, it’s Cody! Don’t you remember me?”
“No. Are you…Are you in one of my classes?” I said coyly.
“I took the same bus as you in kindergarten. I sat with you sometimes. I lived in that small white house on…

I may not know all the answers
to the questions you may pose.
Like what are rainbows made of?
Or why a firefly’s butt glows?
Or why do apples grow on trees,
but raspberries do not?…
