Is lovely son right or mean..?

Apparently I am not funny enough.

Lovely Son thinks I focus too much on the serious side of life, contemplating my feelings, which are always miserable; he says this makes boring reading - no wonder I keep losing followers!

To him, I am like a Dementor with the internet.  Or I’m like the friend who’s call you reject because you know they’re gonna moan on and on about how unlucky they are, while not listening to you, and then inviting themselves round to eat all…

2012: Promises, promises, promises

Okay...I am often rubbish at this.  It was off the back of this rubbishness that I promised I wouldn’t make resolutions this year.  A friend has even reminded me of this.

And now I am breaking that promise.

You can see how this bodes well for the rest of the year.

Instead I am making useful resolutions: it is the fact that they are useful which means the promise-breaking-resolution-making is entirely justified.

Gone from my list are the, “I will…

2011: My nemesis?

Christmas holidays 2011 were tough.

Tough enough to stop me from writing; not only were the three weeks plagued by missed flights, 800 mile drives, train journeys, broken boots, medical appointments, allergic reactions, poorly grandparents, missing absent friends and broken down kitchen appliances - this in reality is enough to push anyone over an edge into a depression worthy of a holiday suicide.  Let’s face it: Christmas is tough enough without all your well-made plans…

Christmas as a single-dating-mum

I love Christmas: I love the food, the time off, the movies, the board games.  I love the sparkly lights and the cinnamon and apple in the air.  I love the scent of pine needles and roaring fires.

And this year I am dating, so I should be loving the romance, the candle-light, and the promise of what is to come.

But I am not.

In fact, I am lonelier than ever - the emptiness has been knocking at the door louder than the carol singers.  And I don’t think this…

Dude..? Sweet!!

Communication is important to keep the peace in a family.

Take this one day; I was driving with my Lovely Son to his grandparents’.  It’s a short drive so what really could go wrong?

Nothing - you’d imagine.

As we approached the roundabout Lovely Son turned to me and said, “Bob’s learned what I’ve done”.  (His name isn’t Bob - but for the sake of anonimity he can have this name).

“Oh really?” I replied supportively, wondering why LS was…

Riots: Revolution or Plain Ridiculous?

The Guardian and The LSE have released a report this week stating that the riots in the Summer were largely caused by an anti-police sentiment.  However I didn’t realise burning a random stranger’s car was revenge on the police!

And finally - something I really don’t understand.  For me it is about as far fetched as expecting me to believe that Jesus died to save mankind - I cannot really see the link. How did it save mankind?  And how did the destruction of communities and…

10 Rules for Modern Relationships

Let’s face it - the days of wooing a partner have gone to sleep along with having baths on a Sunday and podding peas I’ve picked myself.

Here are 10 of the newest rules for modern relationships:

1: Meeting parents is less of a commitment than accepting him or her as your partner on Facebook.

2: You can write love letters in less than 140 characters - in line with Twitter’s requirements.

3: Forplay now includes picture messaging.…

Hair Today, Yesterday and Tomorrow Too!

Having just vacuumed my bedroom for the third time in the last seven days, I’m beginning to get more than a little perturbed by the amount of hair I am losing; I am beginning to feel like a pet animal preparing my coat for the winter season.

When I looked into the barrel of the Dyson it looked as though I had sucked up a rat which had been randomly lying around on my carpet.

And that is after 48 hours - which was when another rat had met a similar fate.

But…

Is there such thing as a happily ever after?

Once upon a time there was a young girl who had a big dream of living Happily Ever After.

This girl is me, Cinders, and I always thought that there would come a point when I would be living this dream.

But I’m not.  Instead I am living a crazy existence - I am dealing with major personal issues, the effects of these stresses on myself and my family, I am still not settled with The One and neither do I have the home or life of my dreams as yet.

In plot terms I have…

Gary Speed: What drives success to destruction? Depression, suicide and being too late

Given that Gary Speed had phenomenal strength and self-discipline, hopefully no depressed person will ever again be told to get a grip - Jeremy Vine

Isn’t it devastating to wake up and hear about the death of a role model?

Gary Speed has been described as a great team mate, and an excellent footballer with an impressive history of achievements.  His friends clearly care a great deal judging by the comments in the media,…

Who's baggage is over-weight? Dating as a single mum!

Mid-thirties is a troubling time to start dating; everything seems so much more serious.  Gone are the days of happily waking up in someone’s home and then asking what they are doing later.  Instead we have the days of letting appropriate time pass before calling and getting home by a reasonable hour to make sure the kids are fine for school tomorrow.

It is the time of accepting baggage.  In our twenties (unless like me you were a teenage mum) everyone seemed to seek perfection;…

WOMEN: Feminism is NOT the same as militant man hating!

Feminism seems to have been badly marketed recently; it seems to have an image of militancy, like there is a mass of women in pleated trousers and Dr Martens with horn-rimmed glasses marching round demanding ultimate control for women.  These women are rumoured to be on a mission to subordinate men to the sofa where they deserve to rot in front of the bad TV and sport they have subjected us to while we have been cooking for them in the kitchen.

But I think this is extremist…

If life is too short why waste should Misha waste it on her not-mum?

Okay, okay.  It has been said before that I am a bit hard; a tough cookie; someone that will choose the impossible choice as opposed to the easy or conventional path.

But I believe that the hard choice sits in the wings ominously waiting to take the stage no matter how hard I try to avoid it.  And funnily enough, that choice seems to force its way into the light when I have centre stage.  Why would I want to keep having my successes rocked by an uninvited extra?

I…

An interview and a sing-a-long with best-selling author, Melissa Foster

Some quick facts about Melissa Foster:

She is insanely pretty with a big smile and amazing hair.

Her favourite song is Dancing Queen because of how much she loves Mamma Mia (don’t we all? Except my little sister - weird).

Her favourite food is mint chocolate chip ice cream from Baskin and Robbins (and now Marks and Spencer brownies...read on...)

Her favourite drink, contrastingly healthily, is ice water. (I pack away the Somerset…

Jackson v Murray: has the trial even solved anything?

The trial of Conrad Murray is over; he has been found guilty of ‘killing’ Michael Jackson and he now faces up to four years in jail.

But apparently this isn’t enough; and I’m not even sure it is fair.

Jermaine Jackson has been quoted in the news as saying that he and his family still do not have closure after this, and that they may be seeking more court action.  Don’t get me wrong, I have sympathy for their loss, but I was not under the impression that a criminal…

Confessions of Cinders

1. Name someone with the same birthday as you.

Neil Armstrong.  And Marilyn Monroe died this day... I know that’s not the same as birth but I like identifying with her in this

2. What has been your favorite age so far?

Now. Each year I think I get better - like wine or cheese.  My looks may be fading but my confidence and intelligence is increasing.  Except at the mo while I am dealing with this Mr X thing which has been stressful.

3. Where did you meet your…

A bid to rescue PC from plot purgatory

I know I realise I have been letting all of you down.

While I have been wittering on about creativity, the police and the stresses of Princessdom life, I have neglected to keep you up to date with PC.

You could even be asking - is he still on the scene? After all, CYG came in and out of Cinders’ life as quick as a designer-shop’s paper bag in the rain.  PC could also have jumped on the back of his white steed and scarpered back to the glorious kingdom of Taunton.  But he…

The Creativity Crisis - Can it even be stifled?

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules, and they have no respect for the status quo. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things...”

I have just read an interesting and moving article by Melissa Sher called, ‘Lessons Learned from Steve Jobs: How this late visionary reminded me to play’.  In it she considers all…

Old skool romance with a Taunton twist

I can but start this post with one word: WOW-WEE!

If this was a Disney film, all of the wildlife in the surrounding countryside would be dancing around in pairs with bright eyes and bushy tails.  There would be duets on the breeze and my grubby door mat would take flight to carry me away from the drear of everyday life.

Why?

Well, because I have just been lost in a whirlwind of romance again this weekend.

Punctuating the end of what seemed an eternally…
