I forgot how much I love 5 am! There was a time when I got up early every morning and went for a run. That was years and years ago (I'm not really that old, I swear!) and since I've begun sleeping later then ever. In high school I never understood how my friends could still be in bed at 1 pm. Partly because my body wouldn't sleep that long, and partly because in my house that just wasn't acceptable. Now I sleep until I can, and get out of bed when I have too.
This past week I have had to get up at 5am every day. The first few days were hard, and I was determined to go back to sleep after, but once you get a little person out of bed, you are up for the day! So instead of going back to bed, I've had to start my day, and I love it!! It's extra hours in my day, and productive ones too. I always was more productive in the morning, and this is a great reminder.
I adore how quiet it is. There are no cars, there are no people, no TV's or radios blasting into the street. I started going for a walk every morning about a month ago, and that was a great feeling too, but now I can do it before anyone else and spend time just with nature and the birds. It feels great to start your day waking up with the sun and watching it colour the sky as the birds sing it a morning song. If I'm super lucky I can even get out before the bugs! Even morning yoga seems more relaxing when done watching a sunrise and without the everyday noises of living near other people.
I hear crickets, and bluejays, and the breeze in the trees, and even silence. I can drive down the street and look at the beauty of the town before all the people take it over, and the smell of fresh bread is everywhere. Maybe I should have been a baker...
Not only that, but my list of things I did today is much longer! Yesterday I ran errands and did dishes and laundry and still had time for a walk and to read and to work and to network... The extra two or three hours to do what I enjoy doing has made the rest of it easier to do too. Secret added bonus? Children seem happier early in the morning. I no longer wake up to "I'm starving" and being poked in the eye, I'm up first and I like it that way! In my three previous days of being up early I have managed to grow my business, my blog, and even interact with people I never would have before. It's great to find someone like-minded who is also online before the coffee is made and before the coffee shop opens it doors.
This is my quiet time. This is where peace can be found. This is a habit I should continue! I won't, but I know I should :) If you don't ever get up early, maybe you should try it, jut for a day. It's not for everyone, but it can be great all the same.
