2011 Honda Odyssey: not your mom's minivan

Originally posted on A Bloggy Mom

I was recently given the opportunity to review the 2011 Honda Odyssey. Not a fan of mini vans? Give it a moment, or give it a test drive! Your heart may go pitter patter.

The entirely redesigned Honda Odyssey is sporty, luxurious and spacious. Have I mentioned it doesn’t look like a mini van? It’s time to put aside your preconceived notions of what owning a mini van means.

Its aerodynamic shape and lightning bolt belt line give it a sporty and “in motion” appearance. The 2011 Honda Odyssey sits wider and lower than its predecessors and competitors. This allowed for easier loading in and out of the vehicle as well as turning corners.

Why do we normally buy a mini van? Space. Storage. Passenger accommodation. The 2011 Odyseey… has it. It will comfortably seat 8 {with its LX seating 7}. However, what mattered most to me was being able to properly use more than two car seats. {I currently drive the 1996 Honda Accord… love her, but she’s just not an Odyssey now is she}.
I only have two children, but I’m always transporting more than that. I usually have one more car seat to push and shove in the middle section. In the 2011, I could place 5 of my current cars seats in the second and third rows with ease.

The 2011 Odyssey was all around easier to use and access than comparable mini van models. {I borrowed every family member’s mini van I could get my hands on over the past few months} The sliding side doors open with greater ease due to the newly designed door handles and lowering the third row seats for more cargo space is a snap.

Electronics your thing when it comes to a vehicle purchase? Yes, it has that as well. Playing videos during our commutes is of the utmost importance to my five year old… or at least that’s what she’s told me. “Available on Odyssey EX-L and standard on Odyssey Touring models, a factory-installed Honda DVD Rear Entertainment System for rear passengers is a multi-faceted system that features a 9-inch wide-screen LCD display that flips down from the ceiling for easy viewing.”

Other Favorite Features of the 2011 Honda Odyssey*

~ Blind Spot Information System (Odyssey Touring Elite)
~ Park Aid (Odyssey Touring)

*features available depending on what model you purchase.

I could seriously go on all day… but I won’t. I suggest finding a local dealer and comparing the 2011 Honda Odyssey with previous models and its competitors just as soon as they are available. I think you will enjoy what you find.

So good to know. I have the Pilot and we are outgrowing it quickly. I swore I would never drive a mini van but things change. This 2011 looks amazing. Definitely going to check it out!!! Thanks for posting.

I'm Team Minivan. I know a lot of people who wouldn't go near one though.... but if any mini van could change their mind, it would be this one.

I LOVE my odyssey. ITs a 2008 so I can only imagine how much better the 2011 is. My husband was against minivans until we test drove the odyssey. Now I couldn't live without it.
