The dreaded oven was the one and only place that never got this momma's love during my recent kitchen cleaning make-over.  We have lived in our home for 4 years and ugh, sad to say that I've only tackled the inside of the oven once.

Using any commercial products that contained harsh chemicals which emit harmful odors was not an option. So off I went and searched for ingredients that are known to be natural cleaners within our own home. It was finally time to face this demon head on in order fully absorb the euphoric feeling of a completely clean kitchen.

Based on the final result, the concoction used was perfect to give our oven a brand new look...well almost. I'd say 85% new.

What you will need:

Pour the baking soda into a bowl. Remember the volcano experiment back in grade school where you mix certain ingredients together you get a volcanic reaction - well these are a few of those ingredients. SLOWLY pour the vinegar into onto the baking soda as you whisk the two ingredients together. Once mixed, pour the lemon juice into the mixture just as slowly as the reaction (bubbling) can occur.

Whisk into a paste.

Remove the racks and generously spread the above mixture all over the inside of your oven. You may need to have some paper towel on hand as some of the crusties of many dinners will already begin to peel off. 

Close the oven and allow the mixture to sit overnight.  

The following day, mix half vinegar and half water in the spray bottle. Spray generously inside the oven overtop of the hardened mixture.

Begin wiping the inside of the oven down. You will need some elbow grease and possibly require 6" arms to reach the back but in the end you will see the difference inside your oven.

The beauty of this successful experiment was I was able to have a cute little paper towel holder  by my side without worrying about harmful chemicals in the air.
