Changing Your Header in Wordpress

Wordpress offers several free themes that have an option which allows the user to upload their own header.
{1} Go to Appearance ~Located In The Dashboard~
{2} Go to Header
If you do not see the option, this means that your current theme does not support the use of a custom image header.
{3} Browse for the image on your computer
{4} Upload your selected image
{5} Save!
You should now see your image.
Tips:
~ Use an image of the correct size for your chosen theme.
~ Images should be in one of these formats: .jpeg .gif, or .png
~ If an image must be cropped, it will be saved as a .jpeg

I have used gimp to scale my header to the dimensions listed but it is always too big. What is the dimension of the header?
