Five Dollar Friday- DIY Anchor Necklace & Giveaway!!

I am a tad obsessed with the nautical look, but the last time I was on a sailboat I had to lay on the deck and pray that my breakfast would stay down. I wasn't seasick- I had just participated in a yard-of-beer drinking contest with some friends the night before at Ranalli's. Nevertheless, I adore anything nautical short of actually going on a sailboat.

Today's Five Dollar Friday item is an adorable Anchor Necklace...and I am giving one away to a lucky reader! (Details at the end of the blog post)

The catch for this Five Dollar Friday deal is that you have to actually make it yourself in order to get it for $5. No fear, I will give you the basic jewelry making instructions so you can make this necklace in 5 minutes or less.

Here's what you need:

All of the items are available at Michael's or Hobby Lobby. You don't need the special tools that I have shown- any pliers are fine, and as for a cutter, I used kitchen scissors before I purchased these :) Make sure to download the Michael's App for iPhone or Android- 40% off coupons are almost ALWAYS available on there and you can re-use them on separate purchases. They just scan your phone and you get the discount on 1 item!

First, cut your chain to the desired length; you can even measure off a necklace that you currently own to make sure it will work for you.

Second, open up a jump ring and attach it to the end of the chain. Put one end of the toggle clasp on the jump ring as well and close it.

Third, open up another jump ring and attach it to the other end of the chain. Put the other end of the toggle clasp on the jump ring as well and close it.

Fourth, open up the ring attached to the charm (or use a jump ring if there is no existing ring). Attach it to the circle portion of the toggle clasp and close the ring.
