A Mom Blog Social Network

Summing up my life in a blog title wasn’t easy. Which part should be the banner headline? Wife? Mommy? Christian? Texan? Diplomatic spouse? Learner? I want to blog on all these facets of my life (and more). I tried out several names, and the best way I have been able to “headline” my life is in this story:It’s high noon, and we’re driving in Texas on U.S. Highway 77, headed north. My husband Honey is at the wheel, as usual, and I am in the passenger seat, wide awake, uncharacteristically. All the way in the back, 7-year-old Einstein and his 4 1/2 –year-old sister Blossom are engrossed in a movie, wearing headphones “so the grown-up music won’t bother us, Mom.” Baby Ladybug, still rear-facing at 7 months old and bored out of her mind, decides enough is enough and starts crying.
Now, this 7-month-old crying is nothing like the flame-throwing yowls that she was capable of 6 months ago when she had colic. This crying, if any sound of unhappiness from your own sweet baby is, is bearable. We are talking to her, trying to console her, but so far I have not resorted to turning around and trying to pat her over the top of her carseat.
Honey, unsuccessfully scanning the road ahead for any sign of life, mutters something about various towns that might be close –Bishop, Driscoll, Robstown. He raises his voice slightly to be heard above Ladybug’s cries, and in a sympathetic, loving voice says, “Hang on, baby, we’re almost….. somewhere.”
Almost….somewhere. That’s the story of our life. Our wonderful, crazy, nomadic, diplomatic, foreign, four-kids, Texas-loving life. Stick with me for awhile. I’m not sure exactly where I am on this journey through life, but I’m confident in the general direction I’m headed. And I’m more than willing to make some pit stops along the way.
