Lately (ok, always) I’ve been obsessed with house blogs.  Blogs that show all types of renovations, decorating, and home ideas. I envision myself  duplicating magazine spreads in my own house.  I always have some type of house project going on.  But, I’ve been going through a dry spell.  I haven’t done any decorating since the girl’s bedroom redo’s this summer.  6 months ago.  That is far too long.  

The other day I was cleaning the upstairs and I started looking at the hallway walls, the guest room, and our bedroom, the wheels started turning.  Paint.  We need paint.

Now if Greg reads this, he’ll say we need paint like we need a hole in our heads.  I like to paint (read:  hire someone to paint) fairly often.  I hate marked up walls that are all-to-common when you have kids running around.  (Yes, I know you can clean them with Magic Eraser, but eventually painting has to happen.)  In our upstairs hallway, not only do we have scuffs, we have a large teal blue paint streak on our off white wall (I’ll blame Claire for that).  In addition, despite my best efforts, the large wax splatter (don’t ask) is just not disappearing from the wall.  Or the floor.  It’s on the floor too.

So, I started making a list of some projects that I want to do in the coming months:

1. Upstairs hallway needs to be painted.  In something other than too-light off-white.  Love the color but....
2. Paint some of the guest room furniture, namely the bed and one of the end tables.  Although some of the furniture is white, some is brown.  The walls are brown. The carpet is brown.  Yawn.  
3. I’m thinking the walls in the guest room need to be painted too.  Too much brown.  Not ready to change the carpet yet, so I guess it needs to be the walls.  
4. Girls bathroom.  Yeah.  That should be painted too.  
5. And I would looovvveee our bedroom painted.  What was with me and different shades of brown?  Good Lawd.  
6. Some updated decor (just a little) and I’ll be a happy girl.

I just told Greg about this list, as I’m writing it.  He wasn’t thrilled.  

Me:  I want the upstairs hallway, girls bathroom, the guest room, and our bedroom painted.

Greg:  What?!  Can we go at least a year without painting anything?

Me:  No.

Greg:  Sigh.

So in addition to needing paint to freshen things up, I need to do a little decorating.  (Hello Home Goods!)  I love cottage style decor.  I really want a cottage.  Since that’s not happening anytime soon, I’ll just stick with the decorating style.  I was devastated when Cottage Living magazine went under.  Not that I can’t find cottage style other places.  I just loved that magazine.

I’ve been reading a blog, Lettered Cottage, which is run by a husband and wife team.  Love their style and the whole website.  Incidentally, the husband is also one-half of the duo onShoot Fly Shoot, the website where I completed their awesome Photography 101 course.  

Over the next couple of months I’m going to gather ideas and paint colors.  I’m thinking that I’ll keep you all informed of my progress.  How about some before, during, and after pictures?  I adore going to home decor blogs and seeing redo’s.  

Of course I plan to take lots of pictures (with my new-found photography skills).
