I read a story today about Catriona Le May Doan. She spoke of never quitting or risk living with regrets as a big motivator for her success. We’ve all heard that dozens of times and yet today it resonated. And then I came across this quote which felt like a left hook to the jaw. I bruise easily.

How often do we feel as if we’re simply passing time, waiting for something? We have responsibilities calling to us, voices coming from many directions offering advice, and our own mind with all of it’s quiet dreams shouting to be heard. And we wait. We fulfill our daily duties, but don’t start or follow up on the scary stuff.

Maybe tomorrow it will be less daunting. Nope. Nada. Dream on baby. Tomorrow it will be even scarier. Like bogeyman-sized freaking spooky. Because while you wait the trepidation grows. Just like the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man in Ghostbusters only not so sweet and roastable.

What we need to do is suck it up in the face of fear and inertia, stare down the dragons, and push – hard. Push to accomplish what you can. Push to make each day significant. Push so that your life becomes a legacy that your kids can look to and emulate. If it’s going to be meaningful it’s going to take putting a little muscle into it.

I’ve taken a few leaps recently. No broken bones. An occasional dented ego, but nothing life threatening. I’m still here and I know I have it in me to push more in many aspects of life.

So homework assignment…ahhhhh…Let’s take some time this weekend to think about it. Maybe over a coffee before the kids are up or once they’re out the door playing with friends. I plan on curling up on my comfy armchair in the little reading corner I’ve designated Maman’s Space – Approach At Your Own Risk, and having a good think. Even if it hurts.
