According to a recent Emily Miller (my shero) article in the Washington Times, the FBI recently announced that violent crime decreased 4 percent last year. Since the 2008 election gun sales have surged.  Because of the Obama Administration's policies?   You could say that.  Many gun owners, like myself, feared a Democratic Administration would enact some form of legislation to infringe on our Constitutional right to bear arms so for the week of November 3 to 9, the FBI received more than 374,000 requests for background checks on gun purchasers . 

It has been shown time and again that violent crime rates decrease when the number of guns in the home increase.  In March the NRA released an article on the current status of Right to Carry (RTC) 2012.  Here are just some of the historical numbers: Homicide rates in Miami, Jacksonville, and Tampa had fallen 10, 18 and 20 percent, respectively, in those metropolitan areas after Florida's RTC law. D.C.’s murder rate tripled after its 1977 handgun ban.  An earlier study for the Justice Department found 34 percent of felons had been “scared off, shot at, wounded or captured by an armed victim,” and 40 percent had not committed crimes, fearing victims were armed.


I'd also like to think "us women folk" had something to do with this surge in gun ownership and decrease in crime.  The National Shooting Sports Foundation shows gun stores reported a 73 percent increase in female customers.  In this economy we need to feel safe.  We are becoming less dependent on our husbands and fathers to protect our families.  I know I for one refuse to be anyone's victim and with every fiber of my being I'll make sure my child doesn't either!
