Project Organization - Family Binder

On my mission towards being more organized, I decided to create a family/household binder. What is that, you ask? Here was my inspiration. My first impression was that it was great - fantastic organization, but I wasn't sure that it was necessary. Then I found a great blog with more inspiration. And even though I could have purchased my very own family binder, I decided to make my own instead, in order to save a little bit of money.

So I sat down with my laptop and got to work. It was definitely a process, but I love how it turned out!

The Binder:

I found the binder and divider tabs at wonderful Target. The tabs are great because they have pockets on either side of them to collect any notes and other important papers.

I am planning on getting a business card page protector, but for now they have a safe spot in my pocket divider.

Important Information:
This tab includes all important contact information. It has contact info for our auto insurance, medical and dental insurance. It also includes contact information for contract workers and our neighbors.

I currently have this under Important Information, but it may end up getting it's own tab. I printed 3 copies of this page - one for each of us. It's more of a "just in case," just in case something happens. Knock on wood!

Babysitter Notes:
This tab includes any important notes that any babysitter may need. We are lucky enough to have family close by and they all know Christopher's schedule, but on the off chance that we need someone else, we have all the important information that they may need.

This tab also includes Christopher's daily schedule for the times that he is with his grandparents for more than just a couple hours.

I also stuck in a page for pet info. We usually take Sampson to be boarded when we are out of town, but there has been the rare occasion when we have had someone watching Sampson.

Important Dates:

The next tab has two pages printed with the months and space to write in any important dates. I am planning on writing birthdays in here too and then collecting birthday cards in the pocket as I find them.

Auto Log:
The next tab has a spreadsheet for auto care. Oh my goodness this is a necessity for me since I often forget to have my oil changed! It is a great way to keep track of what has been done to our cars recently and what may be coming up - for budgeting reasons.

Home Maintenance:
The next tab is a great way to keep track of those home maintenance chores that often get overlooked. It's a great reminder to stay on top of our house so that we can hopefully avoid major (and costly) household repairs.

In this tab I also have a cleaning log - a list of what needs to be cleaned daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annually. This is what I would like to have cleaned of course. Whether or not it happens is another story.

You know how there are always household projects that need to get done? Well, now we have a place to write them down and a way to keep track of everything.
