As you have probably gathered, I’m obsessed with the Olympics. I’ve been pretty much glued to the telly and the BBC live commentary on my cell phone since it began.
And I also love sports trivia.
Last night I stumbled upon a piece of Olympic-related sports trivia that has it all: brothers who became sworn enemies and divided their home town, multi millionaire sportswear companies, Nazi Germany, and the thought of Hitler turning over in his grave?
I was. I couldn’t stop Googling. The more I read the more I had to find out. And I found it so fascinating that I just had to share it with the rest of the world. But before I share, and so you don’t think that I’m completely bonkers, let me start at the beginning with the comment that piqued my interest enough to start Googling in the first place.
It all started last night as I was watching the 200 m Olympic highlights.
I had already seen the race live earlier in the day. But can you believe that the kids managed to come and bug me right as Usain Bolt and co were coming out of the bend? A race that lasts for less than twenty seconds and I couldn’t even watch it without my children bothering me.
So anyway, I wanted to watch the race again. In the evening. When the kids were tucked up in bed. And when there was no danger of me being disturbed.
