I cherish my nightly story time with my daughter. However, I also believe that it is important for dads to read aloud stories to their children, whether it be bedtime or anytime.  A study showed that 97% of dads did not read to their children. Some of my fondest memories of my dad was our nightly story routines. Although, he didn't read us books he had a vivid imagination and told numerous stories about fictional characters. We still laugh at some of them today!  I will always cherish our bedtime routine. So whether dads open a book or their imagination, sharing stories with your children is important to their growth and development. It helps them form positive opinions on reading.
Reasons Why Dads Should Read to Their Children:

• Bonding time
• Modeling the importance of reading
• Creating enjoyable experiences
• Gives Mom a break (My favorite reason)

I want to share the book Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters, by Meg Meeker, M.D. I heard this author speak on the Today Show and this book sounds like a must read book for any man who has a daughter.  It talks about the importance of spending quality time with your daughter and being the kind of person she will one day marry. The book has a 30 day challenge such as take your daughter on a date, treat the mother well, take her to work and lots of other great challenges that strengthen bonds. It sounds like a great handbook. We have a house full of girls so this book is definitely on our reading list.
