....A little less than a year ago, I locked myself in the bathroom, crumpled to the floor, and cried in frustration over my inability to reach my son.  I seriously considered putting him in school, not because he would do better there (I was certain he would do worse), but because he was doing so poorly at home and his behavior, attitude, and the resulting drain it had on me, impacted everyone in the family.  Today through the Picture Writing process, he wrote this poem.  He struggled when it came time to sit down and brainstorm ideas.  He was frustrated and told me that his brain was full of ideas when we brainstormed for my model poem, but it was empty now and he couldn't think of any words for his own.  After I helped draw a few words and phrases out of him, he waved me off with, "Okay, okay, I know what I'm doing now," and with that, he was in the zone.  He worked with more focus than I thought he was capable of.  I didn't hear a peep out of him when his sister finished before him and went off to play.....
