I have to admit that the super bowl is so much more about the food than the game for me. I have never really been too much of a football fan although I have watched more of it in the last 4 years than ever before. I figured out pretty quickly after I started dating my husband that if I wanted to have anything to talk to him about between September and February I better learn to like it. But the food, oh my goodness, the food that is what I look forward to! Yesterday Mariah and I made bacon ranch cheddar pull apart bread and better than sex cake to take to my brother in law Brian and sister in law Danielle’s house and also spinach artichoke dip and Oreo pudding pie to bring to my brother in law Erik and sister in law Laura’s house. Yes my 13 yr old knows how to make better than sex cake. You can go ahead and drop out of the “mother of the year award” race because I got in the bag! I think it was actually more fun preparing the food than going out and eating it. Mariah made up a mom approved playlist on her iPod for us to listen to and didn’t even care when I was dancing around the kitchen and singing at the top of my lungs to Michael Jackson. Apparently if no one else is there to see it, it is not as embarrassing!
The recipe for the bacon ranch cheddar bread was found on plain chicken.com. I was a little nervous about cutting too far in to the bread and ended up not cutting far enough but it still turned out amazing. The recipe for the better than sex cake is super easy. We used a devils food cake box mix, whipped topping, a half jar of Mrs. Richardson’s butterscotch caramel sauce and two crushed heath bars. All you do is bake the cake, poke holes in it and pour melted Mrs. Richardson’s sauce on it, spread the whipped topping and sprinkle it with the heath bars. Apparently you are also supposed to pour sweetened condensed milk along with the caramel sauce but we forgot. Oops! For the Oreo pudding pie we made a batch of chocolate pudding mixed with a cup of whipped topping and poured it into an Oreo crust. We then spread a thin layer of whipped topping on it and stuck football shaped Oreos in it. The spinach artichoke dip recipe we found from allrecipes.com. We did forgot to buy tweaked some of the ingredients. I had to use garlic powder instead of a fresh garlic clove and used a cup of parmesan cheese instead of a ½ cup of Romano cheese. I also used a full cup of spinach instead of just a ½ cup. Made it a little healthier right?!?
Hope everyone enjoyed the game!! Any favorite super bowl recipes you would like to share?
