A Mom Blog Social Network
It's not too often that I get political or defensive on my blog. But after the recent events that have happened in regards to the Paula Deen debacle I have to say that I am completely outraged.
This post has been brewing in my brain every night for the past week, and the more and more that I read about it the more and more pissed I got.
To read that hundreds (I may be over-estimating that) of sponsors and companies have been dropping her or discontinuing her products is absurd and heart breaking.
For years, and I do mean YEARS, I have always been a Paula fan. If you followed my old blog then you know I always. always said Paula was my hero, because let's be honest, she is an amazing woman and cook! I love her and love her family! So this isn't just another random, sticking up for the down, post. I mean this most with all of my heart.
In no way, was what she said okay but let's be real people, this was said in a time when it was common in the South. Again, that does NOT make it right, but it was said. It was done. It was APOLOGIZED for. She chose to tell the truth about it and now she's been flamed for it, dropped and harassed.
Can one person please tell me how many rappers have apologized for the DEROGATORY things they have said? Can one person please name ONE company that has dropped Kanye West or P. Diddy (or whatever his name is today) for being OPENLY racist? Can one person tell me how many production companies have been fined, shut down, dropped, harassed, bullied or flamed for making roles or making actors say derogatory statements, words, names, etc?
I don't think you can. Because society has made it okay to have this double standard where one group can say whatever they want without any repercussions. It's okay for some people to say whatever they want but when someone else says something well then they go through hell for it.
I'm sick of it. I'm sick of people feeling like they are entitled to being able to say whatever and do whatever. I'm sick of them feeling like everyone else owes them something.
Let me tell you right now that this is 2013 and anyone who is crying and bitching about what is going on needs to put their big girl panties on and shut the heck up.
It was a statement made YEARS ago. If you want to bitch about something why don't you complain about TODAY'S people who are saying racist and derogatory things. Stand up and complain about THAT. Stand up and complain about the double standard that is happening in society. Not even with just racist comments but with religion and beliefs as well.
We live in a society where everyone is so concerned about not offending someone else that we forget what we believe in. What about the people like me? What about the people who believe in God and want to share that? What about the people who think others should get over it like we are made to?
I don't care if you're a different religion, sex, color, gay, straight, purple, speak English, from another country. Whatever you are, I don't care. Why are we forced to believe what others believe but they don't have to accept what we believe?
This completely turned into a debate and turned topics a bit. Sorry about that. Back to the point.
After companies decided to drop Paula Deen left and right, I have decided that I won't be shopping at Target anytime soon. I know there are others but we all know that Target and I have a special relationship and that I should basically hand over my paycheck to them.
I was appalled at Target when they were one of the first companies to drop her. It made me ask how, like before, how many rappers albums are they pulling? How many rappers are they dropping from their shelves and what not? None. Just like every other company out there. It's okay to flame one person but God forbid you do it for all. This isn't a color thing people, this is an ACTION and CONSEQUENCE thing. If you do something wrong, take responsibility and be accountable.
Paula Deen was accountable for her actions and APOLOGIZED. How many others can you say that about when they've done worse?
I apologize now if none of that made sense or if it all ran together. I'm all jacked up on Benadryl and Sudafed because of the storms here lately. These words were from the heart for the most part though not my allergy drugged up mind.
What are your thoughts? I know this has been going on for long enough but I know some of you have opinions on it. Whether it be the same, similar, or completely different, ALL are welcome to chime in and share!
Again, I have not proofread this because I'm all jacked up. So let's pretend if there are errors anywhere that you are reading a normal, coherent post. Please and Thank You!
While ALL are welcome to chime in, please be respectful. Thanks!
