Unless you have been living under a rock in a far off galaxy, you may have heard of a little ole movie called Inside Out. Inside Out is the latest from Pixar, the maker of great animation movies such as Monsters Inc, Cars, Brave, Toy Story, Up, etc, etc, etc. In a way I already feel as if Pixar can do no wrong when it comes to movies and I was not disappointed when it came to Inside Out.

The story is told by the emotions that encompass Riley who is uprooted from her home in Michigan, where she has great friends, is a member of the hockey team, and everything seems perfect, to San Francisco, where she knows no one, cries on her first day of school, she’s sleeping on the floor because the moving truck got lost, and her dad is consumed by his new job.

Joy and Sadness go on an adventure through Riley’s conscious/self/mind. Along the way we meet several different aspects of Riley’s mind including her imaginary friend, Bing Bong. He helps the emotions on their journey and you can easily fall in love with him. Along the way we realize that Sadness plays a great role in the reason why Riley is who she is. We also experience a very heart warming situation.

Many people are reviewing saying the movie was great but dark and didn’t want their kids to experience that. Yes it was sad, both me and my kid cried, but honestly I want him to see this. What I got out the movie is that it is ok to not always be happy – that sadness is ok. So many times we tell our children to put on a happy face and to push down those sad feelings. This movie shows them that those feelings are perfectly fine and eventually you will find your Joy or Disgust or Anger or even Fear. What you are feeling is normal and it’s important.

I think everyone should see this and every child should see this. I give it five Disgusts simply because she was my favorite character all sassy and stuff.
